oh my, if you like dolls, you will absolutely love this place. When I first stepped into the store, it was like entering another world. The store is medium size, but is overflowing with dolls and accessories. They do carry "regular dolls" for playing but their main dolls are collectibles, precious dolls. They are all high end, so don't expect to find anything in a lower price range. They also have a huge assortment of collectible beany babies. I would not recommend to take smaller kids inside the store, because of the possibility of them knocking something down and breaking it. Heaven for grown-up doll lovers!
We bought our christmas tree from there last christmas. I wanted to have a "real" tree, not a plastic one, and we just couldn't find one that we liked anywhere else. so we decided to look here. I was surprised to find such a huge assortment of different trees and sizes. True, the price was quite a bit higher than at the local supermarkets and walmarts etc. but the quality of the tree (freshly cut and not already dead for weeks) and the variety made up for the price and more! We were able to enjoy our tree for weeks! also the staff was very friendly and helpful in picking out the right tree and getting it cut to our needs!!!
We take our kids there at least 1 time a year and that's for Halloween. It is open from spring through fall, but Halloween is always special there. They have a little petting zoo where the kids can pet and feed the animals, they offer waggon and hayrides, they have a vegetable garden and flower/butterfly garden, the kids can go inside an old schoolhouse (don't know how old but old) and they re-created an indian camp from the Kanza indians. For Halloween they always have a costume contest and the haunted barn is the best. really spooky! Best of all is the camp fire where the kids get to roast their own marshmellows. Great fun!!!
This is always a special treat for my kids to go to wonderscope. It's not just a museum, it's a hands on learning experience for the kids. There is something to see and learn for all age groups. There are several exhibits within the museum that are designed for different age groups. There are areas for roleplaying, where the kids can practice their shopping and banking skills, in the communications exhibit they get to actually broadcast the news and the weather and you can get a tape of your kids! there's an exhibit that teaches about space travel and they have a nature and science lab. For the little ones there's a playroom and there's also a story-telling area and puppet shows. The greatest fun for my daughters is the artroom though. They can paint and glue and create art in every possible way, even paint their faces! This is worth the trip every time! Prices are reasonable, but with a family membership you get free admission for the whole family for 1 year!
what a great place to have here in Kansas city. Science city is a huge place with one part being museum and hands on experimenting and the other part being a constantly changing exhibition. When we take our kids there we all (the whole family) have a blast. there are several scientific experiments that the kids can take (music, weather, criminology....), there's an indoor playground, indoor mini golf court (really small though) and then there is the exhibit. it changes every 3-4 month and is always really interesting. There's lots of things to learn for everybody. It's not cheap to get in, depending on how big the family is, but you can stay for hours and not get bored! There's also a little bistro with tables to sit and eat. Great family outing!
This is not just an ordinary children's exhibit, it's one of a kind, it's hands on. The kids can create their own piece of art and even take it home. they have different environments set up for the kids to stroll through and touch everything and then create art with hallmark scrap material. This is fun for the whole family because nothing is off limit for the kids to touch.
be sure to call ahead though, some days are not open to the public e.g. when they are reserved for school visits etc.
Always a go to place for my family on a rainy afternoon!
both of our dogs have been treated at this animal clinic since they were puppies. very, very friendly staff and vet. they send us reminders for the dogs shots when due and other appointments just like our pediatrician does for our kids. we had the dogs there for 3 days when we couldn't take them on a trip and they were spoiled rotten there! they even bathed the dogs! Our dogs are part of their family and they are part of ours!
we have taken both of our daughters to this office since they were born. the office and staff are very welcoming. nice waiting area with lots of books and toys. sometimes longer waiting times because they have lots of patients. But when either of my daughters were really sick we have never had a problem of getting a inbetween appointment or have never been turned away when we just showed up without appointment.
The doctor is great too. She really takes her time to talk to the kids and examine them carefully. I totally trust this doctor and would recommend her practice to everyone.
We choose to go to this optometrist when my daughter needed to get her eyes checked because it is close to our home and we didn't know any other one. The staff is really nice and took good care of her since she was a little scared of all the big machines they use to test your vision. The doctor took a long time to make sure she gets the right prescription and made her visit fun for her and explained to her that glasses aren't "the end of the world" for her. The staff was patient with her when it was time to pick the "perfect" frame for her glasses as well (and it really took her a long time because they have a huge assortment of frames). a couple of months after we bought the glasses my daughter sat on them and broke the frame at the bridge. We had no problem at all getting the glasses exchanged. I was pleasantly surprised! I would recommend this place to everybody.
Both of my daughters are members of the shawnee soccer club. we first enrolled them because they wanted to play a sport and this was the only sports club that we thought had resonable prices. They kids are enrolled for the current season only, so no long term commitment if they decide they don't want to play anymore. Everything is included in the enrollment fee except for their uniforms. You can buy your own shorts and cleets and so only have to buy the team jersey, which is not expensive. The teams are girls only or boys only and the emphasis is not on winning only. They teach the kids great team spirit. My girls love to play soccer and wouldn't want to miss a game or practice for anything! The only downside is that a lot of teams split up after the season and have to form new teams for the new season. So far it has been nothing but a great experience for the whole family! Way to go shawnee soccer club!
