The Flint Public Library holds my childhood reading history in its stacks. My parents took us to this library every two weeks to keep our family in reading material. In times of no money, this library kept us entertained for just the cost of going there every two weeks. I still go to this library to browse its familiar stacks, whenever I can get to town...I know where to find what I am looking for here. The staff are freindly, the children's section is large, they have a relatively new Young Adult section that gets new books in regularly with a teen board that meets to help. This great large home to books old and new had much to offer a town that is so poor in many other ways...a true prize.
Ingham Regional Medical Center is a good Hospital system. I have had surgery there and found the backbone of the system...the NURSES, to be top rate, comitted and kind. I have also found most of the doctors connected to this hospital to be of solid caliber. They have a large Women's Center for birthing and other care of women.
The Capital Area District Library is Downtown in Lansing, and as such, one problem is the lack of parking - free or otherwise. The library is a good, solid insitution trying to remain viable and friendly to its members. One of the libraries treats is the used books for sale in the basement's "Book Burrow." Sales of these items help to finance improvements in selection, etc.
Sadly, the locals in this very small burg decided to close the library and tear down the building in a total unnecesary move to gain the land underneath it. This areas families were done a great disservice in this closing as was the dead man who willed the building to the area to ALWAYS house a library for the intellectual betterment of the people. And they tore it down.
The Laingsburg Library is a small town library and much needed in this small rural town. Unfortunately, the Christian Right has a firm hold here....with far too many of the children's books being Christian Bible based. There needs to be a more diverse selection in the children's section, especially. This library may suit some, but it is just too small and opiniated in it's selection to be suitable for my family. It needs to progress to be a better asset to the community.
This store used to be in a historical one room school house...BUT NOT anyMore. Now it is downtown Laingsburg, a sleepy rural town. The store itself has some unique old time toys, but caters a bit too much to the scented candle crowd to keep me interested...though I do still stop in just to see what they have in stock.
Bobbie's Gifts and Collectibles is a small store packed with goodies from Nascar collectible to antique glassware. The owner is friendly and will help you find what you are looking for, if she has it or knows where you can find it. As collectibles change her inventory reflects what is hot as well as the antiques that seem to always be popular with some.
The Clinton County Arts Council has a nice little shop with art work done by Clinton County artists. As Clinton County does not have a large metropolitan area, the council plays an important role in supporting the arts here. The small gallery has shows and the occasional class, but the shop is it's mainstay.
Lakeside Floral And Gifts is a friendly small town shop, perfect for picking up a unique gift item or flower gift. The prices are fair. Their best point is their location for the small town of Laingsburg...because without them, one would have to drive 20 miles in any direction to get fresh flowers.
This Bookstore in Frandor is a full service book store. that is good. The location is what is really great about it..a bookstore is needed in this location and here it is. I have always found the people to be friendly here, the selection adequate. I hope that it will stay here to provide the availibilty of books in this shopping area.
