Dr. Periera is not my daughter's usual pediatrician, but we needed to get in and she had an opening. She was very thorough, we never felt rushed; she answered all of our questions and gave us extensive information on the prescriptions she needed to write out. She has a very comfortable way about her, and it made the necessary visit more pleasant.
Since our usual ped. doctor is retiring, we have decided Dr. Periera will be our choice for the kids from now on. We think she's great!
We loved this resort! We stayed in rooms that are up on the hill overlooking the lodge. One morning, looking out over the bay, we spotted a bald eagle circling so close we thought we could reach out and touch it! Deer everywhere wandering through the grounds (the kids loved that). The food was sensational at the main lodge, and you cannot beat the view out over the Sound.
We all scheduled massages (including my 7-year-old daughter), and their masseurs were fabulous.
It's a wonderful hideaway get-away! My husband and I are planning a second honeymoon and decided it will be there.
I love the fabric and notion selection here. My one complaint is that they run 40% off sales every month, but not all days, and in between that they run 30% off, but again, not all days.
So I am constantly getting flyers with the sales, but it seems to me it would be easier to just mark the fabric down by that much permanently and save the postage on the flyers!
The days that there isn't a sale, the prices are pricey, and I therefore would shop somewhere else. Otherwise, I wait until I have another flyer in hand before going (so they are missing at least half of my business). And I know I'm not the only one that does this (most of my family sews extensively and does this as well).
I was also disappointed they discontinued the business discounts. I occassionally sew for our church theater productions and those discounts made a huge difference to us. So much so, that we don't shop there now since they discontinued offerng a discount to businesses. Other fabric stores, both locally and nationally owned, still offer that discount and so we shop there.
On those sale days, I will often have second thoughts because it will be SOOOOOO crowded as to make the whole creative and shopping experience miserable. And so I'll skip it or just go to a closer store with less crowds.
So if they would not have these on again off again sales, and just generally marked down all their fabrics permanently a bit, I think they would have more consistent customer loyalty.
Though the actual facililty is dated and needs a facelift to bring it into the 21st century, we love coming to skate.
The wood floor (my favorite kind to skate on) is well-maintained and the place is kept neat and tidy.
While we've had birthday parties there, I haven't seen the balcony room used in all the times we've been there (that's not to say it isn't, I just have seen it). Seems a waste.
Anyway, the music is current, the rink guards are courteous (which other places lack). The skates are usually in good working order and are easily exchanged if not.
We appreciate the special school nights (lower rate for kids from local schools once a month). This has become a monthly tradition for us.
They also offer laser tag, but we haven't done that yet.
We love stopping here for books. They have lots of gift ideas as well.
We have also consigned and sold books to them as well.
They also offer field trips to their "special" books room where very precious volumes are for sale. The clerk that runs that room gave a wonderful talk and it was amazing to see such history in a place we didn't expect it.
The parking does leave much to be desired though. Downtown where space is limited, they do have a parking structure, but it is cramped and very hard to navigate in a minivan (better in a VW Bug).
The selection is extensive and the prices are comparable to other book stores. We also like the coffee shop right on the premises ...... what could be better than sipping latte with your new book?
This tiny shop is chock full of beads. My kids love to pick up the muffin tins to use when shopping (each cup marked with a price so you can sort your beads by price for the cashier).
They could use a few more books (more variety of items .... they tend to focus on more complicated jewelry).
They do custom orders if you need them. Comparably, their prices are reasonable (beads are just generally expensive). The cashiers have always been working on some project behind the counter during slow times, and they all seem to know many of the customers on a first name basis, including projects they are working on ........ makes it friendly and easy going place to shop.
One of my favorite haunts, this huge fabric store carries much of what the larger national chains do, plus many very specialized fabrics you can't find elsewhere.
The staff all seem to be sewers and know just what to recommend. They are friendly and always interested in what customers are planning to create.
They have a budget section which I love for picking up kid-type pieces that you know are going to be outgrown in a season or two.
They could use more notions (ribbon selection is pretty slim), but I appreciate that the majoity of the store is still geared to general sewers, not all home dec (though that is a large department), not all quilting (again, large but not the majority).
They also have the Unique Pattern Company Body Scanner set up permanently. For sewers, this is great! I love that service.
The prices are average (fabric prices in general have gone up everywhere), but that budget annex helps.
I do wish they could put together a small play area for kids (especially little boys and husbands) in that large warehouse building so I could have more time without whine.
I enjoy my visits to this shop because once you step in, you are surrounded by creativity. The owner is usually working on a restoration project near the back of the store where she has a working counter set up.
She was very helpful and when helping me select a tool for a new avenue of my hobby, actually directed me to a better tool for less money than the one I was looking at. And she was right on, I'm very pleased with my nippers.
While her glass sheet selection is limited due to the size of the shop, she will order the glass you need if you like. She also offers classes.
While there are some larger shops in Portland, it's wonderful having her so close for the necessary supplies to have on hand. Having someone so knowledgeable is a bonus when you have questions or just want to chat "glass."
We rate this one highly. My whole family loves browsing this shop. They have everything your friendly birds, squirrels or butterflies might look for in your yard.
Having phoned about a product, they were friendly on the phone and had the item I needed in stock and waiting behind the counter when I arrived, and at about half of what other stores had it at (hummingbird feeder replacement stopper).
The staff also recommended a bird watcher's book since we were ready to upgrade from our very simple one for our growing youngsters who wanted more detail. They even helped us look up a bird we'd seen recently that we hadn't been able to identify.
The birdseed seemed more expensive, but when I purchased from another large chain store, I found their seed was full of chaff and debris, which the birds cannot eat. I will definitely go back to getting my seed here again, which you can buy in bulk or scoop yourself ......... you see exactly the great quality you are getting.
We started frequenting this business when my daughter began playing trumpet a number of years ago. They have since moved to a beautiful new custom-built facility which we also enjoy going to.
They have quite a selection of instruments and music, and service many of the local schools' band progams. We have purchased two higher end trumpets and a guitar from them. The salespeople we have interacted with are all high-energy, friendly and know their product (they've demonstrated a variety of items to me at my request).
My daughter also takes lessons here and we are pleased with their quality, their flexibililty and the overall value for our dollar.
They have gone out of their way several times to handle refunds, equipment repairs and special orders.
We highly recommend them to anyone needing lessons or an instrument.
