Over the years, Laraias has become a high-end cigar dealer, when I was little I remember all sorts of models as well as cigars. I did not know one cigar could cost so much.. if you know what you are lookign for and have some extra $, great shop. Good for a last minute gift for the smoker! Sometimes the owner is a bit... cranky. Maybe he has nicotine withdrawl.
This place is amazing, even for a novice with no green thumb like me. Their yard must be acres and acres, and they have an incredible mail order service as well. They know their products, and are great at listening to what you want and recommending shrubs/flowers/trees that fit the bill. If you're out of town, they have an 800 number so you can have your bulbs shipped to you where ever you are.
I went to the Michael's in Avon and had mixed results. I thought I was clear on what I wanted with my wedding band, but they did not create what I was looking for. However, when I complained, they fixed it free and did it rather quickly. Perhaps it was just a new employee and communication problem. They are always super nice when I stop in and look at their offerings.
I have had several really great cuts here and some not so good. It is probably my fault because I decide at last minute to get a cut and am generally a walk in--which is something I really like about Hair Plus.
I spent many hours here as a child and still love going back, whether to see the famous owl or the reptiles, or to walk on the many trails. They have a lovely board walk around a nature preserve that is perfect for a quick walk or run. You feel so far removed from the world, running through reids and swamp land. It is a true nature refuge.
I was here years ago and the impression is still with me. It's a very interesting musuem, old prison, and also a very good place to take kids [nothing they can destroy, and you can see the wheels turning in their heads too.]
This mansion is so interesting and beautiful inside. I was not sure what to expect, but thoroughly enjoyed the tour and reading about the family. It's off of busy Route 4, but once you are on the property, you won't know the cars are flying by. It's a lovely place to spend an afternoon or day, and bring a picnic. The gift shop has a unique assortment of goods, not just normally find at those stores.
This is a great musuem to bring kids to, it's very interactive and in my non-curator opinion seems very historically accurate. The grounds are fun for the kids to run around on too.
The Torrington Historical Society has fun different exhibits throughout the year, and usually something fun for the holidays. They do a great job of truly portraying the history of Torrington. An interesting way to spend a few hours. It's also in an old house itself, so just to see that struture is interesting. My mom and I go every year at Christmas to see how it is decorated.
I find the furniture at Bob's to be not the highest quality, which should not have surprised me as that is not their aim. The deals are good, but I would not buy anything that you would want to last. Good stuff for a first apartment maybe. I do not love huge stores like this, so perhaps I am biased to begin with. But they do have deals and offer delivery...
