The miniature golf course at Pro Tee is in terrible condition these days. It's rather sad to see it go to such waste, since there are no other comparable courses in the area to play with the kids. The driving range is heated, which is nice. But the course itself is only mediocre and the smell of the oil refinery just down the road makes it almost unbearable to spend time there.
I suspect this is the last year for the Do It Center in Glen Carbon. There is now both a Lowe's and a Home Depot right across the street with far more to offer. However, when you're looking for farm specifics and feeding equipment, you just can't beat the Do It Center across the road. They always have a nice selection of "pools" outside as well, in the summers, and beautiful gazebos and sheds.
For special events, we recommend the Fox Creek clubhouse's facilities. The beautiful bar mirrors the glass walls behind you, that overlook the greens. There is a deck above that creates a nice veranda overhead, so that your guests can mingle outdoors even if the weather isn't perfect. The view is beautiful and serene and the facilities are some of the best in town.
Whether you're looking for fabulous cigars or something for a gift, this shop on Main Street will have what you need. They offer wonderful "birth announcement" cigars for reasonable prices and the glass containers always make quite an impression when they're handed out after a new baby is born.
Beyond Timbuktu is a wonderful little shop amongst the boutiques and specialty stores in Downtown Edwardsville. It has a great array of imported gifts as well as beautiful decor pieces. No matter what we're looking for, a housewarming gift or wedding present, we can always find it there. The staff is super friendly and always very welcoming and helpful. However, this is not a place to take small children, since it's rather small and crowded.
The campus of SIUE is very pedestrian-friendly with a lot of resources for the students. Despite having attended a private school in St. Louis, my children will attend this state school located in a quiet corner of Edwardsville. The degree programs offered are diverse and the tuition is affordable. The Starbucks on campus is a great addition and the parking lots are everywhere, nearby many of the dining halls, residence halls, and classroom buildings.
We have had a a dance recital at Webster Elementary the past couple years and it has been a good experience. The neighboring classrooms make a nice changing area and the stage is enormous. The auditorium holds many people and is never crowded, and there is ample parking in one of two lots.
We recently had an incident where our daughter needed emergency medical treatment. We were transported to Anderson and were fairly happy with the experience. The doctor wasn't very accessible or friendly, despite the fact that we were one of three people in the entire ER. But the nurses and staff were very courteous and kind, and very engaging to my scared daughter.
We have been nothing but thrilled with the flowers we've received (and sent) from Love's In Bloom. The bouquets are always diverse and beautiful, and they've never wired together a broken bloom before like so many other florists do. We love the selection and the diversity, and the service is just the best in the area.
Drawn by the temptation of a free haircut from a Welcome Wagon packet, we made the mistake of trying this salon just once. That was all it took for us to never want to return. The stylist was inexperienced and did not listen to a thing I said. They left us feeling that we still needed a haircut and we proceeded to another salon to have things fixed appropriately.
