African World Of Braids
I went there because I wanted to have some kinky twists for vacation. I had them before (at another salon) so I knew exactly what I wanted. They stylists there do know how to do all sorts of braiding styles and they sometimes have 2 braiders working on one person at once so it makes the styling much quicker. However, my major complaint - which was really a big turnoff for me - was that customers are expected to PAY for their hair style BEFORE service is rendered. No other hair stylists or salon has expected this and I simply don't do business this way. After I refused, the receptionist explained that the owner had so many people walk away without paying that it's his new policy. I explained that I was not about to pay before I saw their work and I proceeded to leave. She stopped me and tried to work something out. After much more discussion, they finally agreed to allow me to pay after my hair was braided. But the damage was already done. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not return to this establishment. There are too many other salons in the area that know their craft just as well and are a lot friendlier.
Jenny Tailor
I have been visiting Jenny for several years and I have always been pleased with her work. Anything that you have to be altered - dresses, trousers, and suits - Jenny Tailor can do it and do it well. I also like that the alterations are timely - no waiting weeks to have a single pair of slacks hemmed. She is very unassuming and doesn't beat around the bush with pricing - she will tell you right away how much it will cost for your alterations. And the prices have been consistent from month to month with similar services. Valuable to local businesses in the Triangle.
Factory Card & Party Outlet
Need napkins for a party? Need decor for a baby shower? Need confetti to throw on your co-worker who has just turned the ripe old age of 50? Well, look no further...this place is amazing. Recently, I spent hours in this store just looking...I came out with stuff for my wedding, for a baby shower I'm hosting, and some other stuff that I don't necessarily need immediately but I might! Great everyday deals! They have everything you need from balloons to bubbles. Also check out the clearance section towards middle of the store! The staff is helpful and accommodating - when I went to return unused cups and napkins, I didn't have the receipt for the cups. However, since it was not a specialty item, they refunded my money without the receipt which was great! Saved me a return trip!
Edible Art
I initially considered Edible Art for my wedding cake vendor. I had purchased baby shower cakes there and they always tasted great and looked fabulous. The staff has always been friendly. However, I always thought that they were a little pricey but for a special occasion - it's ok, right? Well...that depends. I don't really have any complaints about the overall quality of the cakes here -i've had some that were a little dry and some that were perfect. However, when it came to ordering my wedding cake, I wasn't pleased at all with the prices. Everything - every swirl, dot, monogram - any embellishment at all - was A LA CARTE. And in speaking with other bakers, I know that it doesn't take much more to do some of these things...Ultimately I chose another baker for my wedding bake but I would recommend giving them a try. I may even use them again for other special occasion cakes...
PROS: great presentation of cakes and designs available
CONS: certainscakes too dry; too pricey - every detail is A LA CARTE
Sweet Creations by Greg
My cake was one of the highlights of my wedding day. One reason is because it was one of my first decisions - and what I sound one I made with choosing Greg and Sweet Creations. The wedding cake not only tasted as WONDERFUL as the sample during our consultation- it looked even more GORGEOUS than I had envisioned! Greg is very professional and has decades of experience. And more importantly, he is compassionate and understands the concerns of brides. For the price, service, and of course - the product - you just can't beat Sweet Creations!
Party Showcase
During my initial visit, there were lots of displays on the showroom floor to choose from. Staff was friendly and helpful, showing the different fabrics available for linens and taking me on a tour of the warehouse where some of the rental items are located. They also answered questions that I had about table linen sizes and amount of table skirting needed for certain size tables if I wanted to skirt 3 sides instead of 4, etc. But be prepared to wait a little but it wasn't a long wait at all and I was acknowledged right away. It also helps to be a little organized - have an idea of what you might be interested in or by visit their website for ideas. They are certainly not gonna help you with all the decorating details - and they shouldn't IMHO - it's not their business to coordinate events. Also, during busy wedding weekends and months (like October and May), don't be surprised if the showcase floor is nearly empty - all of the rentals are out to actual events! I didn't have any problems with my rentals and everything turned out fine.
Capital Events
While Capital Events is fairly new to the Triangle, it seems that the secret is out of the bag...what a great find when I was searching for places for my wedding & reception venue. Very great indoor space - they have 2 large rooms that are adjoined and can be separated or opened up to create one larger room. Recessed and track lighting...great for creating ambience. Lots of windows and great area available for caterers to setup and not be in the way of guests. Facility has tables and chairs available/included and also basic table linens available for rental at prices that beat any party rental place around. Staff is friendly and willing to consider any and all special accommodations requests. I visited and changed setup plans several times before finally deciding on one. If you get a chance, I would highly recommend checking it out.
New Image Studio
I visited this photographer after a recommendation from a co-worker. When I visited his home studio, I was WOWed at his work. And not just at some of their famous clientele, but at the photos of everyday people who want to look their best and capture the most important moments of their lives. Very classic as well as fun photos delivered in all kinds of medium. You can't go wrong here...just visit their website to see just how much experience the team at New Image Studio has. Everyone has been GREAT..our engagement photos were fabulous and gave me peace of mind that our wedding photos would be just as impressive. Newimagestudio offers a wide variety of packages, albums, and personalized extras that meet any price point -- from the "budget" bride to the "money is no object" one. After seeing the engagement photos, my now husband even commented on how impressed he was with the photos - he says "they made us look like movie stars" and that this was the best money he has every spent.
After Hours Formalwear
I proceeded with caution - because I had heard some not so great things about this particular location in Crabtree Valley Mall. They have great tuxedo selections at decent prices (some can be a little expensive though, IMHO). But there is something to be said for their lack of organization. We were called multiple times by different people leaving the same message or telling us the same thing about our an already agreed upon order deadline which had not yet arrived! Talk about annoying! After we agreed to a date, we didn't need someone calling us 2 days later and asking us about it again!
Despite all that, in the end, we were satisfied. My husband looked wonderful on our wedding day and everything arrived without any last minute complications.
David's Bridal
The staff here is great. The sales consultant was very pleasant and patient - allowing me and my friends to pick out my selection of gowns to try on. Even after I tried on what seemed like dozens of gowns and was still not satisfied, she talked with me and tried to get a better idea of what I might want. She then went out and picked additional selections for me to try. However, I still didn't find exactly what I wanted. It's not her fault - everyone will simply not find something that they like there. I would recommend any bride to go there at least once and see what they have to offer - who knows, you might find something and have the experience of excellent customer service.
