Campus Veterinary Clinic
I had a housemate who used to bike to and from campus. Anyhow, one day he was rounding a corner and some car pulled out into him allowing him to faceplant right out front of the vet clinic there. Thankfully it is run by decent people who helped him out even though he's not a cat. Such decency in dealing with strangers must surely translate to a good bedside manner with precious pets.
East Bay Vivarium
Even if you don't want to purchase animals, if you just want to just browse, this is a pretty awesome place. Giant snakes, lizards, insects...it's got everything a 10 year old boy (and sometimes girl) needs to be terribly happy.
Albany Bowl
Albany Bowl is not as good a bowling alley as it COULD be. It is a little far from the main drag of Berkeley and that can make transit tricky. They keep up their lanes well, and the food is okay...sometimes kind of trashy people show up and then the place is less cool. Bring extra socks.
Juniper Tree Supplies
So...I'm not the most girly of girls...but sometimes one just wants a soap that smells of tea-tree-oil or the like. Plus I like art supplies, they're like super fun to imagine doing things with. So I like the fact that this place isn't too far from home. Woot.
Andronicos Market
I still wouldn't shop there. Anyone operating on a budget should know better than to even poke around at Andronico's. Maybe once every 3 or 4 blue moons they have something on supersale, but your best bet is a place like Safeway/PakNSave.
YMCA
If I were a student on the campus of the university of california at berkeley, I would certainly not go to the YMCA, simply because the facilities on campus are better and closer.
Barnes & Noble
I like the fact that a barnes and noble on this left coast has that same sort of vibe to it as a barnes and noble on the right coast. I know that some locals will prefer more "independant bookstores", but I want a bookstore that will have what I need and have it well catalogued and be able to get it to me within a day if it isn't on site.
