The best part about this parlor is picking your flavors. There are over 30 different types of ice cream including seasonal favorites such as peppermint stick or pumpkin pie. The prices are very reasonable for desserts as well as sandwiches and soups. They also do coffee drinks as well. The only down side to this delcious parlor is that many times the service is lacking. I would suggest takeout!
PROS: wonderful handmade ice cream, many flavors, sundaes, shakes, ect
CONS: poor service, hard to find parking
If you've never been here drop what you're doing and go! The breakfasts and seafood here is amazing as are the prices. The best food for the price in town! The waitresses are fantastic as well but the best part is the atmosphere. You can eat inside the small family run diner or go outside on the gorgeous deck overlooking the bay and ocean. Its the best place to take out of town visitors!
PROS: delcious seafood, great view, fast and friendly service
CONS: only open for breakfast and lunch
This vet is fantastic because of the staff and the location. They have a great full serivce hospital that can accomidate just about any problem or emergency. The staff is friendly, caring and just wonderful in dealing with overnights. I also love that there is a pet shop and groomers attached to the vets. It's SO convienent. Parking is also great, as is the location.
PROS: wonderful staff, great clinics, attached groomers and store
This studio offers a great variety of classes including irish step, hip hop, jazz, ballet and others. The prices are great and their are many evening options. The only problem is that there aren't very many students and often times a class will only have two or three people or just end up cancelled.
PROS: tons of class variety, adult classes, great prices, wonderful instructiors
CONS: not very professional, not a lot of students, classes are often cancelled
NCD has many different classes from ballet to jazz to tango. They offer many different levels from kids to adults and have a main studio and an annex to accomidate many different classes at once. The rates are very reasonable and they offer a student discount. The teachers are fantastic; very talented and wonderful to learn from! Many performance opportunities are avaliable.
PROS: great teachers, gorgeous studio, professional atmosphere
Dons is the place to go for snacks in Arcata at all hours of the night. They have delicious, fresh donughts, sandwiches, drinks, ice cream and bagel sandwiches at reasonable prices and are open 24 hours a day. Lots of seating, lots to read, and always somone one to talk to. It really fills up when the bars close or when movies let out but the crowds disperse quickly.
PROS: cheap, delicious donuts, great place to go after the bars close
CONS: can get REALLY crowded
If you're going to spend the day out on the marsh this is where you should start. This gorgeous building is full of interactive displays to assist you in learning about the marsh and it's inhabitants. Having a little bit of knowledge about the area realy makes the walk a better experience. Be sure to take a look at all the birds in the exhibit then try to spot them out on the marsh!
PROS: great staff, guided walks, fun for the whole family
CONS: odd hours
My favorite part about attending HSU was the teachers. They aren't going to get paid as much up here so the ones that are here are in it for quality of life and you get a different sort of person at that level. I never had a teacher that wasn't known in his or her field, or that wasn't exceptional in some way. HSU has a gorgeous campus, diverse campus activities and great class offerings, especially in the sciences.
PROS: great class selection, lots to do, beautiful area
CONS: housing is expensive
CR is a great place to go if you want to save some money. It's incredibly easy to get your ge out of the way dirt cheap. They have a huge variety of classes at many different times, including evenings. They also have the option of online classes and classes at other sites, including Eureka and Arcata. Anyone can sign up!
PROS: cheap tuition, many classes, many different instructional sites
CONS: you can't add classes so you HAVE to register before they start
