I doubt that you could find better shortread than that sold at Big Island Candies in HIlo. They have a deserved reputation as the best cookies in the state. You can even watch them being made and they give free samples at the door.! Their shortbread has just the right consistency -crisp,yet crumbly. The chocolate dipped ones are my favorites bur they offer macadamia shortbread as well as plain and sugar free. You can also choose either milk chocolate dipped cookies or dark chocolate dipped ones.
While European designs have given way to more local and Asian merchandise Hildgund's still offers some of the most beautiful jewelry on the island. Prices reflect the quality of the merchandise, but sales are fairly frequent. From $49.95 turtle pendants to $100,000 diamond necklaces Hildgund's offers quality designs at premium prices. the salespeople are knowledgable and helpful.
Wonderful source for mainland flowers you can't grow in Hawaii from seasonal lilacs and daffodils to pussy willows characterize this store. Their prices spoil you for other retail sources for flowers. If you keep your receipt and the flowers die quickly they stand by their merchandise and will replace it. They have recently renovated and beautified this store, making it look far more like a retail establishment than a wholesaler, without the expected increase in prices.
I've acquired a refrigerator and range from this store and found the staff to have been extraordinarily helpful. They are happy to go out of their way to locate specific models of appliances for you and can give you all the specifications. Management attends mainland seminars to stay up on the latest technology and you feel you benefit as their customer.
Kona Wine Market offers a terrific range of wines, liqueurs, specialty drinks, and foods to go with them. From caviar to European cheeses this shop is a welcome surprise and the only source in Kona for supplies for an elegant repast.
The proprietors of this garden center really offer a wealth of landscaping advice and assistance along with sales of plants and garden accessories. From garden pavers to arbors, you can create the tropical garden of your dreams successfully through this nursery. The emphasis here is on design and landscape consulting.
This store is in a high rent location in Waikoloa Village and the prices reflect this. It has the basics but no more. You'd think with such a small pharmacy the service would be more personal and complete but my past experiences here did not support this belief. It is the only pharmacy in Waikoloa Village, so it does offer the convenience of local shopping in emergencies, saving a 30 minute drive to the other closest pharmacy.
Village Pharmacy has been providing good care and service for at least 20 years. Long lines in this popular pharmacy are common but they have added staff to accommodate the increasing number of people. Aside from offering prescriptions they have some medical supplies and devices as well as basic medicine chest staples. I like that they have a table, chairs, and newspapers to look at while you wait.
For such a tiny store tucked into the Kona Marketplace Island Pet Supplies carries a pretty good range of pet supplements, toys, and grooming supplies including the wonderful shedding tool which is indispensable but hard to find. The staff is helpful and will try to get products they don't stock for you if requested. You won't find bargains here but pet supplies aside from the basics are hard to come by in Kona.
What a unique combination of merchandise this store has! An old local business has supplied gorgeious ribbons, wedding cake toppers, and every variety of Hawaii trropical plant imagineable for many years in a typically funky Hilo store. which looks to be a former gas station. Plants are displayed outside while party supplies and garden supplies are indoors
