I've been a patron at Sheet Music Service for several years now - they always have what I need (or quickly ordered it for me). Their prices are also the fairest in town, and they cover the largest variety of instruments. I think everyone in the classical music community probably knows about this place; anyone studying a classical instrument should visit this very old Portland establishment!
Portland Music Co. is probably the best and most reputable place in town to pick up a new or used musical instrument. They offer rentals as well - and you'll find every accessory you'll need for you instrument. You can special order something if they don't have it in stock, and they also have a separate section for sheet music. Great place!
If you love comics you gotta check out Future Dreams!
They have *A LOT* of comics on hand - old, new and collectable. Figurines are offered and check out their special *discount* boxes too - a lot of old goodies can be found for cheap.
Counter Media is exactly what it's name suggests. Conservative and the general stodgey sort should stay away from this place.
Otherwise enter and find comics (new + old - bondage fairies!), books and magazines of the alternative/adult nature. Small and located just a few steps from Powell's City of Books.
My very favorite antique shop in Portland - why? Because they absolutely have the *best* selection coupled with a fine sense of presentation.
Walk through the various "rooms" and experience the past all over again. I especially like the upstairs rooms - where the dim sound of an old radio mysteriously plays!
They have everything from clothing to furniture, old arcade machines (at one point), typewriters and toys.
Beaverton has it's quirky little shops here and there - and Crystal Heart has to be the crown jewel!
Books, Crystals, Jewelry, Clothing & Tribal items - a solid mix of everything metaphysical!
Also - one of my favorite reasons for going there: Aura Photos!
Definitely the only place in Beaverton you can get this done.
The staff is great - and near the back of the shop stop by and have a snack or drink at their little cafe!
The Dragon Herbarium might be a bit hidden, but once you've visited this rare Portland gem, you'll only want to visit evermore!
Offering the widest & most inexpensive selection of BULK dried herbs AND bulk essential oils - you'll definitely come away with a nice variety of items to treat yourself to.
Also available: Resins/saps (bulk incense), clothing, pouches, peace pipes, crystals, books, magazines and other misc. items.
Don't miss out on this mystical place!
Food Front is always a heartening experience - the whole atmosphere of the place just makes you feel better!
They offer several organic/vegan food options and a delicious deli where you can order sandwiches, snacks and desserts!
Essential oils and natural beauty care products are also offered at a fair price.
I've always been very impressed with the Daily Grind, for several reasons.
The selection of organic produce, a fair variety of (mostly organic) bulk items and a large assortment of natural food items.
However, what draws me to this store the most is their baked goods section: they actually bake everything FRESH right on site!
I recommend trying the *enormous* vegan ginger cookies and everything else baked there because it is ALL so tasty!
This small food co-op is a must if you're looking for organic food products. The organic produce is high quality (they also hold farmer's markets weekly) and don't miss out on the (mostly) vegan pastry section! Delicious and nutritious!
