We've been at this pediatric practice for several years and are very pleased with the office. Our pediatrican is Doctor Dora Tung. She's extremely sweet. There is a train table in the waiting room which the kids all love to play with. They also play Disney movies on a television which helps take the little ones minds off of the upcoming shots and such.
Dr. Tung is very nice when dealing with the kids. After the visit, kids get a sticker and some animal crackers. A cute idea. They also have a special treasure box and kids get to choose a present from the box when they have their booster shots . My four year old really appreciated this touch.
Bottomline: Manhattan Beach Kids Docs is a wonderful, warm environment to take your kids for well or sick visits.
My neice always begs to visit Dollmakers when she visits LA. There is such a huge selection of dolls that any little girl would have a ball just looking through the well stocked store.
They do have stuffed animals, but the draw is the baby dolls. The second you walk in you are greeted with a warm welcome and although some of the dolls are a bit on the pricey side, you are definitely not in a no-touch zone.
I'm sure doll collectors would also love this place simply for the wonderful selection of dolls and accessories. A great place to take a little girl for her first baby doll purchase. Surely to be fondly remembered.
Bottomline: Old-fashioned doll shop with old-fashioned charm. A jewel!
I totally love this store. This is a great place to shop for teens. There are all kinds of hip and weird items. Need a dashboard saint, some Dirty Girl soap? Here's the place to find it.
This place is perfect for finding a gift for the person who has everything and needs nothing. The staff is pierced and covered with tattoos. The items for sale explain the name. There are plenty of novelties for parties and decorating your home and yourself. Naughty and nice, this place is funky and fab.
Bottomline: Eclectic merchandise and staff make shopping at Wacko good clean fun!
This place will make you wish you were a kid again! With a bit of a science fiction twist, the toys are educational and hip. There are a ton of models and old fashioned wind up tin robots. I walked into the store thinking it was more of a "boy" thing, but ended up totally in love with a lot of the retro wind up stuff.
My five year old wanted all of the spy gear to take some notes on his little sister. Very cute.
Bottomline: A great place for the future scientist or private eye.
By her own description, owner Teri Weissis known as "the baby gift expert to the stars". She does earn her title when dealing with celebs and regular folk by giving you the star treatment no matter how much you want to spend.
If you are looking for a baby shower gift, but have no idea about kids, you can phone and indicate a dollar amount for the gift. Teri will make sure your gift is unique and appropriate and includes a beautiful complimentary gift wrap and gift card. She will also ship it for you if necessary.
This place also has a large selection of items for the tiniest preemie babies. Her christening gowns are simply stunning and the custom name blankets are a sure winner with any new Mom.
She also carries some beautiful party dresses for little girls with delicate smocking that live up to the Beverly Hills address. Her showroom is by appointment only, but worth every penny.
The giant elaborate displays in the windows always lure my five year old into this great toy store. Apparently, the store did start out carrying only puzzles, but feedback from customers made the owners start to stock a lot of other great things for kids.
The store is still short on electronics and long on imagination. A good thing from a Mom who knows how most toys can suck batteries. They have a great selection of unique board games, many more than at your local TRU.
And the stuffed animal selection makes the "zoo" in the name make sense. They also rely heavily on movie products which is great for all the Hollywood brats who love to shop for the latest movie stuff.
Bottomline: Unique kids boutique great for finding gifts that are not available at every kids superstore.
For the serious artist or Sunday painter, this place is great. The shop is tidy and well organized. You won't find a lot of bargain basement prices, but they make up for it with the wonderful selection and willingness to special order items for you.
The custom picture framing staff is very helpful and assisted me making a decision about framing my husband's graduate diploma. They did a great job for us.
They have a massive inventory of oil and acrylic paints in stock which I love to just walk through, admiring all the colors! This is a great place to go if you are more than a hobbyist, but less than an expert.
Bottomline: For more selection than Michael's, stop at Lyons!
It's so hard to find someone who really does beautiful flowers these days. Seems like most centerpieces are relegated to the FTD or 1800flowers crowd. If you want something that's a cut above, check out Flowerwild.
My husband bought me a gorgeous bouquet from them for our anniversary and they lit up the room for over a week. They are happy to make up custom designs for you on the spot featuring your favorite fresh blossoms.
The bouquets I have purchased are really impressive and look far more expensive than they are.
Bottomline: Flowerwild is great for any flowerchild.
I had a couple of things I needed to fix. A dresser drawer was sticking and I needed a spare set of keys for my older car. I walked into Ace, expecting the same sort of help (none) I get when I go to Home Depot. I was pleasantly surprised.
They greeted me with a smile and first asked me what I needed. Then I was walked straight to the back of the store for my keys. They had a little trouble making them, as the keys here are still ground by hand and it's quite an art! The manager even walked out to my car with me and made sure that the keys were perfect before I left. This meant several adjustments, but when he was finished the keys were perfect.
I was also told that GULF WAX would fix my sticking drawer problem. I bought some and tried it at home. It worked great! I never would have thought to buy wax if I had not been helped by such great staff.
Bottomline: Leave Home Depot to the experts, for real service go to the little guys at Ace.
I had my daughter at Little Company of Mary Hospital in May of 2005 and it was a wonderful experience all round. The hospital has a new (3 years old) maternity ward with all private rooms. The rooms are designed to look as homey as possible with lots of tubes and other necessary hospital items actually hidden behind the artwork!
I found the staff to be very kind and gracious. The meals were better than average hospital food. And my birth experience was just great. I'd highly recommend this hospital to anyone looking for a hospital birth that feels like home.
Bottomline: The hot tub on the maternity floor doesn't look glamorous, but feels great!
