Oakland Public Library
the building is pretty big..there are 2 stories to this building. the first floor has the childrens books, and the second floor is more darker and quieter where rules are more strictly enforced...i didnt like that place when i was a kid. the first floor though had alot of books that teach you how to make origami birds and other animals. i enjoyed going there once in a while as a kid, but i havent been there for years...
Waldenbooks
this place was pretty small and cramped up...i didnt see alot of people inside when i was there, and the only staff was pretty much the guy behind the cash machine and some other guy. i went there to get a SAT book which they had and helped me look for. they knew exactly where they were! =] i was in and out of the store pretty fast and got a free bookmark. reading for me isnt really fun though, but these guys were pretty helpful and there were alot of books in that small store.
Jim's Volkswagen
i got my car here! we didnt have a lot of problem getting the car when it was on sale. it was a 2005 VW Jetta. it didn't take long for the deal to happen, and so far the car has been great and i am very pleased with it. they told me i could bring the car in every month or so for a free car wash, but i decided to just wash the car on my own =]
T Kane's Kung Fu Karate
the owner of this place is some short old fat white guy. he wears a karate uniform with his hairy chest completely visible. i went in there for a free try out lesson one night. he showed me a few moves then murmured something saying he was getting tired of doing this. unlike other martial arts studios, this guy keeps a sheet of paper with a list of moves inside his uniform that he constantly refers to during his lessons. i doubt he knows much about what he is teaching.
Van's Tire & Auto Svc Inc
the shop looks kinda like a dump...and the part of oakland its in is pretty beat up too. but the guys there are very trust worthy and know what they are doing. they have a lot of experience working with cars and i've been there many times in the past.
Village Barber Shop
they had a special low price this one time, so i decided to give them a try. When i was there, the person that cut my hair had no idea what he was doing or what i was asking him to do. a 1 on the side...he didnt know what it meant. kids were laughing at my hair for a week after that, then i got it fixed some place else. definitely not going back there...
Bay Area Driving School
i dont think theres any drivers ed class that is actually fun...the hours are so long...and you have to sit there and listen to a guy talk for ever. its literally impossible to try to cut class also, if you get caught they make you redo the entire thing over again...really not worth it. the instructor that i had did have some fun stories to tell though...about when he was in high school and drinking and driving, its funny, but at the same time it helps you to realize how dangerous some of these things can be.
Castro Valley Chiropractic Center
me and my dad used to wrestle around a little bit. and this one time, i fell off something and felt my neck crack a bit. it was nothing too serious, but i wasn't able to turn my neck much at all. so...the next morning, we came here, and it was a great help.
Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Incorporated
every time i go i have to pay a co-pay of 15 dollars. the doctors spend little to no time with you at all and they will totally disregard your problems unless they can see something is seriously wrong. i've has a bad back problem for years and experience some pretty severe neck pains occasionally. after a while, i was able to get some x-rays and they told me there was nothing that could be done for me, and i should just leave it alone since the neck pains only happens every now and then. well...i've been seeing a chiropracter outside of kaiser for a while now, and its helped out tremendously
Connies Pond & Garden
if you want to build a small pond or something of that sort in your backyard, this is the place to go! the people here are very knowledgable friendly and helpful. the place could be a little bigger, but they do have a large selection of fihes(kois) to choose from. i doubt youd be able to find a better place than this for building a pond anywhere close by.
