As a showcase for "encased meats" Hot Doug's offers much more than your typical Chicago dog. Specials include sausge made from antelope, chicken, lamb -- we're not talking just beef here! Naming conventions are cute and witty and the food is top-notch, even for something wrapped in a bun. Duck fat french fries are a treat, as are the ones fried in regular fat. They even offer a veggie dog! It is an experience unlike any other Chicago hot dog stand. The new store offers more seating, as well as a small outdoor dining area. Cash only -- and you will usually find the register manned by none other than the owner, Doug Sohn. This eatery has been written up in none other than the New York Times, Gourmet magazine, and others.
This is THE place to go for gorgeous midcentury furniture and home accessories. The name is a bit misleading, as the prices are very high, but you are paying for the highest quality and biggest names out there. Their showroom is magnificent, and it's fun to see all the standard pieces on display by Eames, van der Rohe, Nogguci, Miller, et al. Purchases are made through the store and are delivered to your home. All store employees are highly knowledgable in the field and can help you style your perfect modern home!
Edgewater Antique Mall is located in northern Chicago, near another large antique mall, the Broadway Antique Market, yet this store is much more affordable than its neighbor. It boasts nearly as many sellers, but the price points are lower and you are bound to find something you love within your price range. This is another fun store to roam around in and see all there is to offer.
Pause is a perfect little coffee shop in Edgewater where you can sit and relax and enjoy a nice cup of coffee. In the summertime they have some outdoor seating with umbrellas and small tables. They have several computers with Internet access. Their drink menu is large, with lots of specialty concoctions, deliciously sweet and scrumptious. They serve Intelligensia coffee and also offer a nice selection of baked goods. A wonderful place with a wonderful atmosphere, it is one of my favorite places to sit and talk with friends.
Golden Pacific is a small Asian grocery store in Edgewater, but it's one of the best out there. Their produce is always extremely fresh, the store is impeccibly clean, and the owners are helpful and friendly. Their prices tend to be a big higher on some things than in a regular grocery store, but their selection of hard to find items is impressive. They have a large section of vegetarian fake meats as well as spices and herbs.
My husband and I were referred to Hank to help with the closing on our first condo purchase. Although he doesn't specialize in real estate law, he was the perfect man for the job. His fees were reasonable - especially considering the amount of work he did for us. The closing went off without a single hitch and everything was in perfect order. Hank was always friendly and patient and returned all calls in a very timely manner. We'll definitely be keeping his card around -- he'd be great to have on our side in any situation!
Neighborhoodies is a fun store where you can go to have t-shirts and sweatshirts, among other things, personalized any way you'd like. They started by featuring differnt Chicago neighborhoods, and this is still a popular choice, but the sky's the limit.
It's nice to go into the store and order your item in person rather than doing it online. They have so many samples and examples in the store, so you can get a lot of ideas for what you want. They use American Apparel clothing, so it's great quality and the prices aren't bad.
The Southport Grocery is a great place to find gourmet gifts for the special cook in your life. They have a wonderful selection of unique and hard to find cooking ingredients, including oils, cheeses, and spices.
Their bakery and cafe are just as delicious, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections, ranging from light salads and soups to rich and heavenly comfort food.
This is a one of a kind store where you can express your inner foodie!
Be By Baby is the newest baby store in Lakeview/Roscoe Village. It caters to a more natural motherhood mindset, and is a great spot to find those ever-popular baby wraps and hard-to-find cloth diapers.
This is a great store to go to whether you're a mother, aunt, or grandma. You can find gifts for expectant mothers and children alike. They carry a nice line of organic children's clothing and maternity ware and nursing accessories.
This is one of the first stores of its kind in the Chicago area, and many mothers are excited about it -- for a good reason! They offer unique products in a nice environment and are a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
Jayson Home and Garden not only has some of the most gorgeous flowers and plants but they also have beautiful home furnishings. Ranging from upscale items to affordable accessories, the store is packed full of pretty things.
Their display windows always lure you into the store, and they usually feature a theme for many of the items. Prices tend to be high but if you look hard enough you can always find a good deal on a great item, and they have frequent end-of-the-seaons sales.
