This is a very nice, clean and newly built small town library. The librarian is always willing to order books for you to read. There's a children's area with puppets and lots of books. They also offer storytimes, although I have not been yet. The library has a meeting room, ample parking and a book drop off for after hours.
This is a large store with a large selection of plants and some gifts. The plants are high quality and better than the ones you can buy from Target or Walmart. The price reflects the quality and you shoud expect to pay around $25 for a small plant. This store also delivers.
I take my daughter to the pediatric clinic here and love it. Dr. George is gentle and very informative. The staff has always been polite, although I am often on hold over the phone for several minutes. I am greeted in a pleasant manner and promptly called in for my appointment. The office is decorated in bright colors, there's a t.v. that plays children's movies and there's a play area. There's also a bathroom right off of the waiting room.
The staff here are great and do a fantastic job. The head psychiatrist is very knowledgable and helpful. The rooms are clean and kept up well. The campus is pretty too. Orchard Place is a psychiatric medical institute for children ages 12-17. They offer intensive inpatient psychiatric treatment for many problems (OCD, aggression, etc). Located on the southside of Des Moines in a nice neighborhood.
Very experienced and professional social workers and staff. The wait for a psychiatrist can be long, but all kinds of insurances are accepted (including Medicaid) and they offer a sliding fee scale based on incomes. The Child Guidance Center offers services for children ages 3-18.
The thick crust pizza is the best. You must save the crust for last and eat it dipped in honey. The wait here is usually long because it's in a college town, but well worth it. They pile on the cheese so be ready for some great grease. You can choose from a variety of crusts (wheat, white, honey..) and a variety of toppings (all of the standard toppings). I believe a medium pizza is around $10-12.
Great food (bbq, sandwiches, large dinner platters, big helpings). Lots of selection. Cheap prices (sandwiches and fries are about $5). Great dessert menu (many kinds of shakes, malts, splits and other ice cream concoctions). Very busy on the weekends and whenever there's a game in town. Lots of college students eat here as well.
Several mix in and ice cream choices. The prices are somewhat high, but the quality of the ice cream is excellent. People with peanut allergies may want to be a little cautious when ordering. Examples of mix-ins include: gummy bears, nuts, oreos, heath, fruit, gum, etc. Examples of ice cream include: vanilla, coffee, chocolate, strawberry, etc. You can also choose between a dipped sugar cone, dipped sugar cone bowl, bowl and regular cone. The restaurant has about 5-8 tables.
This place offers excellent ice cream at a medium to high price (more than Dairy Queen). They nitrogen to freeze their products which creates a very smooth texture in the ice cream and gelato. The restaurant is located in a strip mall so it's easy to miss when you are looking for it from the street. The inside of the restaurant is clean and medium sized. This is my favorite ice cream. It was invented my a few students from Iowa State University.
Free checking accounts. They also offer savings accounts for children. For every three dollars you deposit, you get one dollar worth of kids cash that you can use at many places throughout the area. I was treated with respect here. The bank in Altoona is brand new and is very nice. It's located down the street from Target and Walmart so the location is convienient.
