I was put in charge of finding a DJ for a school dance, so, I found one at DJays Unlimited who was very enthusiastic and social. He seemed like the right choice. I gave him some of the boundaries and what type of songs wouldn't be allowed, and soon, we organized a playlist of songs to be played during the school dance. All I had to do was list a few songs I would like addedf to the mix and he found them, put them in and based the rest of the songs off that list (and my boundaries). When the actual dance happened, he was really enthusiastic and did a great job playing and mixing songs. Throughout the entire 4 hour dance, he kept the music playing, new and current, slow and fast, all evenly distributed. He allowed user requests, played games, worked with the students, and at the end of the dance a lot of the students were very pleased with our selection of a DJ for this year. Will be here again next year! Also, he was very fair in his price rates!
Highland Card and Comics is a small store that can be quite hard to find because of the small sign, and it's pretty small, so, it's easy to miss this one. But, inside, it looks much bigger, with comic books surround the walls and magazines taking up the center. Inside, there are life-size cardboard stand-ups of famous comic book characters like Spider-Man, it all makes the store feel more 'welcoming'. The staff are VERY knowledgeable and do not rip you off. They always give you the best deal and find the best comic book for your children with a simple description. Their selection is vast and you can find pretty much anything you're looking for, however, their price is VERY high. Even the easy-to-find comics are priced pretty high, and items in a glass casing (aka really rare) can cost up to $700!
Smarti Pants is a fun little toy shop that always gets my kids excited. Inside, there are toys all around, and plenty of things to try in the store. Whizzing airplanes cover the ceiling, walking stuffed animals cover the floor, and a large race track is in the very center of the store, it really is quite an experience! During the day, there are magic shows which are really exciting and storybook readers, which is magical! In the back of the store, they have a whole section dedicated to trains and the whole section is filled with variety and unique model trains. The employees are very helpful and work well with kids, making them laugh and stare in wonderment. However, with all this great service and variety, comes an expensive price point! Toys can go well over $50 a pop, and esp. some of the bigger stuffed animals are in the mid-hundreds. So, make sure you enter with a full wallet, you'll need it!
Cedar Lake Swimming Pool is large and expansive, they have 3 different areas, a smaller pool for the littler kids, a deep pool for swimming and diving, and a large water slide which is a lot of fun. However, since there is only one slide, during the summer the lines for the slide can get very long and it can be a while before you can slide down, however, the slide is very well built and is a lot of fun. The general atomosphere at the pool is friendly and safe, there are active duty lifeguards who keep a close eye on everybody, however, it just gets too crowded for my tastes. The pools could be bigger because there really isn't much room (esp. in the learners pool, where there isn't much room to move around when crowded). Still, this is an okay pool which can be a lot of fun.
Every Sunday morning my friends and I play a round of golf here at South Gleason. The course is expansive and well-cleaned. The grass is level and the courses is well designed. Holes range in difficultly evenly and is great for both experts and starters. Their employees are really nice and will remember regulars and even give you discounts if they are in a good mood, they are really a lot of fun =) Prices are good too, offering a cheap discount card for regulars. We usually play for 2 hours before heading home and we never end up finishing the entire course, it's THAT big. It usually isn't that busy, so, there isn't a lot of waiting for other players ahead of you to finish either. If it's raining or the weather is bad, they also offer an expansive indoor-section to work on swing.
PROS: Great Price, Expansive Course, Many Holes, Friendly Employees
The owner of this dry cleaners ruins the potential of this cleaners. Inside, it is nice and clean, things seem orderly and well-made, however, the manager who seems to be the only one running the store is VERY rude! I asked her how long this should take and she said "I don't know hun, just put your phone number down and ill let you know later." I was appauled. Well, she did call, 8 days later! I completly forgot I had my suit at the cleaners until she called. When I drove down to pick it up, I spent about 10 minutes waiting for her to find my suit and when she finally found it she charged me an insane amount, but I relunctantly paid. When I got home I expected something amazing, but she did a good job. It wasn't worth the high price, but it got the job done. Still, I would not take my buisness here again!
CONS: Rude Manager, Takes a long time to be cleaned, Expensive
Carmen's Unique Creations is a wonderful store. I can walk into their store and tell them exactly (or vaguely) what I want in my gift basket, I hand them a few items and they do the rest! I can come back in about 90 minutes and the gift basket is completed! Inside their facility, they have a lot of accessories you can add including ribbons, streamers, confettii, etc; and these items can really add a lot of presentation to your gift basket! Everytime I have gotten a product from them, I have always been pleased with the finished result, they continue to impress everytime! Their employees are very nice too who explain what they plan to create to you and make it simple for you to say if you want this or that. These people always end up creating a quality product, but....the price is usually very high, which is a shame, but I am NEVER unsatisfied with the product.
PROS: Friendly, Talented Staff, Beautiful Baskets, Lots of choices in the store
Alamo Auto Service is just awesome. Whenever something is wrong with my car, or if I just want a checkup, I can just pull up in their service station, and they will perform a check-up on my car! Thankfully, their store is right next to a Target, so, I can walk into Target while they work on my car, come out 45 minutes later and it's ready to go. The price? Great. If nothing is wrong, they won't charge you a dime! It's really something. Rather than throw a bunch of terms my way and throw a big bill in my face, they explain things clearly and the price ends up being really low! Their employees are VERY helpful and VERY friendly, these people know what they are doing and make someone like me understand what is wrong with me car. The best!
Burr Oak Bowl is a great bowling alley. They have an arcade, lots of lanes, clean shoes, high-quality bowling bowls, and friendly/helpful employees. The seating for each lane is expansive, allowing room for a whole group of friends. Generally, all the customers and employees are friendly and add a easy-going atomosphere. There are laughs and fun times ahead. Rates are fair and aren't too hard on the wallet. Food is also top-notch, but the best part is that they have a sporting goods store inside the bowling alley, so, if you really liked your bowling shoes, they have a new pair (usually) in there to purchese, it really is great. The one and only problem that was disgruntling to a parent when bringing my children is...smoking. Smoking is allowed and it is heavily noticible the moment you walk in. Besides that, this is a great bowling alley!
Midlothian Music is quite a drive from where I live, but I always drive out when I need something for our musical family. Midlothian Music is this HUGE store filled with sheet music, instruments, and statues of famous composers. It really feels like a music store. All of the instruments for sale look shiny and new, even the used intruments have been tuned up for sale. Although, I do agree that some of their instruments (esp. new) are really expensive, however, you can still find a few good deals here and there, but you're always getting good quality. My daughter plays the violin, so we stop by every 6 months just to get it tuned because they are *THAT* good. They also offer lessons, but because of our distant location, we don't have any experience with this.
PROS: Lots of sheet music, beautiful, high quality instruments, friendly staff
CONS: Can be expensive, can be a long drive
