Christy's Country Candles Inc

Madison, IN Gift Shops 11/14/05: 'Nice gifts and candles.'

While traveling through Madison, Indiana last month we decided to stop and grab something to eat. While looking for a good restaurant, I saw this store. I love candles, so decided to go in and look around. This is a small store with a good selection of candles and some cute gifts. I saw some beautiful cat figurines for sell in this store. The prices were reasonable. The woman working in the store was nice and left you alone to look around. There are only a few parking spaces, but the store is not that crowded so parking was not a problem.

Larry's Plumbing Heating Inc

One winter my heating stopped working, and I needed to find someone to repair my furnace fast. A friend recommended Larry's Heating & Air Conditioning Service, so I called them. They offered to come out right away which was a good since the temperature was dropping into the teens that night. It took them a short time to discover the problem and fix it. The price was very reasonable. The man who fixed the heat was nice and polite. I would recommend this place.

Church Of The Guardian Angels

Louisville, KY Churches 11/14/05: 'Catholic Church'

I attended Guardian Angels church for many years, and my children went to the elementary school. This is a nice church, with some beautiful stained glass windows. Mass is held on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. They still conducted confession in the old way when I was there, but I hear it has switch over to the face- to -face with the priest confession now. The school was very small and not air-conditoned at the time my children were students. There is plenty of parking, unless you attend one of the later masses. They have great fish sandwiches, so try the fish during lent.

Derby City Antique Mall & Cafe

Derby City Antique Mall has a large collection of antiques for sell. This place is huge, so make sure you have a lot of time to look around. I think some of the prices are much too high, but then these are antiques. This place is located off Bardstown Road, close to the Buechel Business District. The building was a middle school, but was remodeled to become this antique mall that has many dealers and booths. There is a cafe located in this building that serves good food. The cafe closes early (3:00p.m.), so make sure you have time to try it. There is plenty of parking right in front of the building. The people working there seemed to be pleasant.

Churchill Downs Investment Co

I like going to Churchill Downs and watching the horse races. We usually go a few times during the year. This is a fun place to go. We always go into the club house, and usually pay a bit more and go up to the third or fifth floor. On the fifth floor you can see the horses run around the entire track. This floor has you sitting inside, but there is a small area where you can step outside. Expect to spend a lot of money at this place. You pay to get in, for a program, to make bets, and for the food. Food is pretty expensive. On occasion, they have special days where hot dogs and drinks are only a dollar. The restrooms on the first floor are not that nice, they are dark and dirty. The restrooms on the third and fifth floors are nice, and have hair spray, body spray, and candy sitting by the sinks. I only wish the smoking ban had been applied here, yes you can still smoke here. There are some non-smoking areas inside, but you still have to put up with some idiot smoking outside. Parking is now free.

Bell's Candles Cards & Gift

Louisville, KY General Merchandise Stores 11/14/05: 'Stop here if looking for a gift.'

I was looking for a nice gift to give my best friend for her 28th birthday. I had never been in this store, but decided to take a look after driving pass it one day. I am glad I stopped in. The store had some of the nicest gifts at good prices. There were a variety of candles, and the store smelled so good. The staff did not bother you, so you could look around in peace. There were some great greeting cards, but I get all my cards at Card Factory Outlet so did not buy any. There was plenty of parking spaces, and the store was not crowded the day I was there.

Puzzles Fun Dome

Puzzles Fun Dome recently open up at 11530 Bluegrass Parkway. It is close to Garden Ridge and Backyard Burgers. This place has so many attractions and services. There is a indoor nine-hole mini golf course, art studio, arcade, inflatable fun zone, and much more. The art studio offers organized art classes which my kids loved. They even got their art work displayed in the dome. This is a great place to have a birthday party. The parent's lounge is great for adults to relax and still be able to watch your kids play

Foree Tree Svc

If you have any trees on your property that need to be trimmed, cut down, or removed this give this place a call right away. A very bad thunderstorm knocked down a few trees on my property and I was told that this was the place to call to get them removed. They came out the very day I called and quickly got the trees off my property. The men will very polite and friendly. The cost to remove three trees was much less then I was expecting.

Spalding University

I attended Spalding University for a short time before transferring to the University of Louisville. This is a very small university with mostly female students. The selection of undergraduate programs is not huge. I would suggest going to the University of Louisville where there are so many programs to choose from. The main reason to attend Spalding University is for the small classes. The professor will know your name, unlike some of the large classes at U of L. Be willing to pay a lot to attend this university, but then you pay a lot to attend almost every college. You must pay to park. This university is located in downtown Louisville, not far from the public library. The teachers do seem to care about all the students. You will definitely get individual attention at this school.

Gray's College Bookstore

Grays College Bookstore is located on south 4th street close to the University of Louisville campus. This book store has a nice selection of new and used textbooks, school supplies, and clothing. There are only a few free parking spaces close to the store, but I have never had a problem finding a place to park. This store can be very crowded during the first few weeks of classes. The books are expensive. They will buy back textbooks at the end of the semester. I think they give the most money for your books, although it is still less than it should be. The staff is usually helpful and polite.
