The Nelson has recently undergone a huge expansion and now has miles more of its treasures on display. The Nelson's treasures are housed in a beautiful neoclassical building which is one of Kansas City's most important landmarks. The art within ranges from classic masters to modern innovators. The Nelson also houses the largest Asian art collection in the midwest.
Our family loves Science City despite the fact its patrons have declined in past years. We love to visit the planetarium and dinasour lab. We try to attend all of the special exhibits which are always changing. Unfortunately, the news is always implying that Science City is on the verge of closing its doors due to poor attendance. If you love this place as much as we do, make sure you visit more often so they can keep this Kansas City treasure open!
PROS: Great educational exhibits for the whole family.
CONS: Lower attendance threatens is continuing operation
We all know that children out grow many of thier clothes often without wearing some of the outfits or only wearing them a few times. If you are looking to sell or buy clothes that fit into the above catagories then you will love this shop. The used clothes are clean and reasonalbly priced. They also sell a smaller selection of used kid's furniture and accessories. They are a top notch dealer.
This book seller is a little bit of a haul from my home but I gladly drive the distance from time to time to check there stocks. This is one of my favorite stores in the metro it is small enough that you are not overwelmed by the choices but large enough that you can always find the books you are looking for. When the store doesn't have the book in stock they will always offer to order the book for you. I love that the staff loves books as much as I do. The staff has read most of the books and recommend thier favorites.
PROS: Books sold by booklovers for booklovers
The newsstand is located right off the outer road on 71 South in a small but convienient location. Many of the store in Grandview offer a limited number of periodicals and newspapers but the newstand has a much wider selection. It also has a smaller book selection but there are many deals to be found if you just look a little. Some of the prices are a little more than you would pay at larger stores but it is often worth it to avoid the drive and crowds.
The bookworm is for bookworms of all ages. This store has a wide selection of books and they are easy to locate. Many smaller stores offer great deals but the books are piled or boxed up and you have to really dig around to find what you need. Not at bookworm, the store is well organized and the staff can always locate the book you want even if you can't. You can tell they love books as much as you. My niece loves this store because they let kids read the books before you buy. Some book stores are concerned that kids will destroy the books and have taken books away from her.
PROS: kid friendly
CONS: some limited selection
College is expensive and books are often the most expensive extras of the college experience. I was always disappointed when all of my books were in a new edition and the college buyers would not buy them back or offer pennies on the dollar. But this store will often buy all of those books back and pay almost double what the buyers are willing to pay. Don't lose money on your books bring them here!
Every Christmas we shop in Mardel's to find books and supplies for my husband's grandmother. She uses the teaching aids and books in her bible school classes and the kids always enjoy the items we find here. Whenever she visits she brings an extra suitcase to cart home all of her finds. The prices are reasonalbe the the staff is kind.
PROS: reasonalbe prices
CONS: none that I can see
I spend tons of money on books every year and my house is often overrun with books I have already enjoyed. The Book's Inn provides a great way for me to save money and swap the books I have already read. The store is small but the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about the books they sell.
PROS: Small store with great staff
Kids dig this smaller, hipper bookstore and adults love the prices. I love bookstores but I am often overwelmed by the bigger stores so I can understand why my niece is as well. However, the second we walked into this store she was able to find a book and pull up a piece of carpet and enjoy without getting trampled by other customers. She had a blast and we had a good time watching her enjoy reading. The staff was very kind and helpful.
PROS: Great for kids
