Monta Vista High School is apparently the holy grail of high schools for Asian parents--for that reason, they are now really strict about verifying your residency in order to register. (In the past, people would try all kinds of things to get their kids enrolled). The highly competitive atmosphere at MV is hard on a lot of the kids, and has probably resulted in many a inferiority complex. On the other hand, I think MV does help kids develop a higher sense of motivation as well as prepare them for the real world. I feel sorry for people who come out of easy high schools at the top of their class thinking that they're all set in life, only to find out that there are--gasp--actually people better than them out there. Monta Vista teaches you that you can get a 1550 on your SATs and still not get into Harvard because there are 10 other people in your class who got 1600s. No, I'm not bitter...
Marina, like most Asian supermarkets in the area, generally has lower prices for meat and produce than Albertson's or Safeway. Their selection for most seafood as well as less popular cuts/types of meat (ground pork, for example) is very good. Marina also has pretty much any Chinese grocery item that you'd want. The bakery has great pastries as well!
I was one of David K's earlier students when he started out, probably about 7 years ago. He was working out of his tiny apartment back then, but I can still remember his enthusiasm for teaching. His student base has grown immensely since then, and I am proud of the success of his music school. He is a genuinely great guy who loves music, and he imposes extremely high standards on not only his students but also on the other teachers. Highly recommended.
I wouldn't recommend people do to all their grocery shopping at Eddies, as their selection is extremely limited and their prices are kind of high. When I lived in Charles Village, I'd run to Eddies to pick up things I needed in between big grocery store trips. They do however have a lot of specialty/gourmet/health type foods and a great deli, so they're definitely worth a visit if you're into that.
