This is where I go when I need an item for a project or home repair and I can't get to Home Depot or Lowe's (on the other side of the island). The customer service is great, the prices are reasonable, and the selection is decent. It's conveniently located right down the road -- the quintessential local neighborhood hardware store. The only (minor) thing I don't like is the exit... it's difficult to pull out to see if you can go because you're afraid to get hit by oncoming traffic.
Fluffy green-sod fairways. Sweeping landscapes. Designed by a pro. Its a stop on the PGA Champions Tour. Its one of the best courses on Oahu and possibly the best course Ive ever played. It is extremely well-maintained and designed. Its pricey but not for a reason. The Turtle Bay Golf Academy offers a variety of classes, lessons, clinics for all skill levels. This is the ultimate experience for the amateur golfer looking to improve their game.
My family took me here for a special dinner on Father's Day. The Oceanarium is located inside the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki. It's a 280,000 gallon tank that soars three stories high, visible from all three hotel restaurants. It's breath-taking, especially if you get to sit next to the massive tank. But really anywhere in the dining area has a decent view of the tank. My kids were fascinated with the it; depicting a typical reef community, it is the home to 400 fish and 70 marine species.
This was the first luau I went to. My new bride and I went with our guests the day after our wedding. Dinner was served buffet-style -- the food was nothing to write home about. At least the drinks were free. The show itself was entertaining. We were treated to the hula, Tahitian and Samoan dances, all distinctive and unique. The Samoan Fire-knife dance captured everyone's attention (especially the kids). We were delighted to know that our wedding officiant was also the emcee of the night's events. An overall entertaining night but don't know how it compares to other luaus.
there were gas stations such as this where a service attendant would come out and pump the gas for you. I didn't even have to get out of my car. It was convenient and easy and something I'm not used to; seems like every gas station is self-serve these days (at least the ones I go to). The attendant was friendly and quick. He processed my credit card and when I told him to put a tip on it, he said it was too late but not to worry about it. Of course, I felt awful -- I had no cash on me to tip him. ALWAYS carry some cash for something like this.
We usually take our dry cleaning and special clothing to Clean Living as it's in a convenient location in our neighborhood. Their service is great and prices are reasonable. I often drop off my military uniforms there and they always come back crisp and creased in the right places. We've also dropped off stained clothing and pillow covers and they've come back clean and better-looking than before. Several chains throughout Oahu. Highly recommended!
My son sees a specialist at Straub and we are lucky to have him as part of the team of doctors who are involved with my son's ongoing care. The staff in the Ophthalmology Clinic and in Surgical Services are particularly nice. My son has had surgery here and they were totally professional and cognizant of our concerns and fears throughout the whole process. This is patient care at its best!
We visited the DeZign showroom in Honolulu after determining we needed a dining room table and chairs. The style of furniture DeZign carries appealed to us so we spent a lot of time looking around and finally found a dining set we could agree on. The quality of the pieces are decent for the price and we are pretty happy with our purchase. Customer service is fantastic. I would shop there again.
This store at the Windward Mall has a big selection of freshwater fish as well as family pets such as kittens, puppies, and birds and sometimes other small animals. They also carry foods and supplies and all sort of products to care for your critter. When I take my kids to the mall, the always ask to stop by this store. They enjoy looking at the different animals and inevitably they will ask if/when they can have a pet of their own.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii features two full-service libraries, one located on MCBH, Kaneohe Bay (in the same building as the base theater) and one at Camp Smith. They are a part of a network of other USMC libraries located around the U.S. and world.
The Kaneohe Bay library is small but houses a decent selection of books, periodicals, and media. In addition to carrying adult fiction and non-fiction and children's books, the library offers internet access and computers with word processing capabilities, as well as a large collection of professional military education books and Hawaiiana. Storytime is held every Thursday around 10am. Current titles (both fiction and non-fiction) and recommended reading are on display on separate shelves.
The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the library is clean and well-kept. My kids and I enjoy coming here every few weeks to check out the latest selection of books and borrow some for home.
