I had a step child transfer in AFTER the middle of the school year. The office staff took excellent care of getting all necessary paperwork together and having my signatures on all paperwork. They had a class schedule (previous school, work, grades, attendence, etc. all analyzed already) ready w/in a week and a half! They had her signed up for the lunch program and a helper to assist her in her first few days.
The teachers took their time with her. Luckily she's bright and caught on quickly. They also were EXCELLENT communicators with the family (her father and I) in good and not so good progress.
I would recommend this school. It has heart, spirit AND an excellent education available.
PROS: Caring, great education
Truthfully, I don't know if the legal services that they provide are good, bad or indifferent. I have TRIED on two separate occassions to request help and have been denied both times because they don't have enough staff. I was TOLD that they have something like five attornies for ten counties. I do feel bad about THAT part.
This is supposed to be for low income folks and uncomplicated cival matters. They have a telephone intake twice a week (Tuesday & Thursday) and then they send you a mountain of paperwork. Twice I filled this out, it was heart-wrenching when it's about divorce. Twice, even though I fit the profile and the income guidelines, I was turned down. The second time I was actually VERYBALLY told they'd accept the case but it first had to be talked over in a meeting... the next thing I know I'm getting a denial letter and nobody will tell me why. I tried to call the original ATTORNEY who told me that I'd be accepted but would never be put through.
This hurt me and I'm still living in the same, miserable conditions.
Dan Hellman is a WONDERFUL attorney. He has an upbeat attitude and is not afraid of asking hard questions.
Attorney Hellman was appointed to represent me by a local judge. This didn't lessen me in his eyes or his diligence in representing me. I was NOT a second class client. Attorney Hellman went out of his way to not only represent me in my troubles, but to look out for my personal welfare.
Please note that Attorney Hellman is the former District Attorney for a neighboring county and although he may look young, he has a lot under his belt.
If you need an attorney to go to bat for you ---- I would choose Attorney Hellman over and over.
I cannot thank him enough for the kindness he showed me.
PROS: Professional, looks out for YOU
CONS: absolutely NONE
There are not that many attornies to choose from in this tiny place -- and in MY opinion I would never choose Attorney Jeffrey Haberkorn again!
We tele-communicated an approximate 200 mile stretch on a child visitation issue and visited his office twice before the hearing. We AGREED on a set price and have it in writing AND on audio tape (which IS legal in MN).
The disposition of the case is not important here...but what was important is that he AGREED to a price, we gave it to him up front and after the case was done (2001??) he started billing us for about $150.00. I called his office and explained this was paid in full before hand. It didn't matter. I spoke w/ the attorney and he said basically for all the hassle he was adding this amount on. OH NO YOU DON'T.
His billing practices are so messed up that a few months later this bill magically doubled by the exact amount it was originally. His office and he have been contacted by certified mail on several occassions and offered PROOF POSITIVE that we paid in full......but the bills still come nearly 5/6 years later.
CONS: it doesn't matter if it's agreed upon and in writing -- he still bills (us)
My son uses this store usually. Actually there are two locations, the "store" and the installation place which is on Losey and La Crosse Streets in La Crosse. He had an audio/visual system put in his vehicle by them and it works very nice. However, many months ago he ordered a specialty speaker from Sound World for my Bang & Olefson subwoofer. After a few months this came in...but it was the wrong one. So now he/we are waiting for them to correct their mistake. I would have rated this store/business higher if it were not for the HUGE wait on this speaker for the subwoofer (I'm talking months and months).
PROS: Good Selection/Installation
CONS: Sometimes have to wait for speciality items
I grew up in this Parish. I remember when it was tiny and everybody was jammed in a small section of what I THINK is the k-8 school now.
The Parish was built through donations I THINK...and it's so beautiful. It feels like home. It has a unique shape, possibly an octogan but I'm not sure, I never really counted.
I saw recently that Sister Thomas Leo was STILL in charge of the school. Now this is one tough AND TOTALLY LOVING lady. My son attended k-5 at the school until they found he had a learning disability (back in the 80's) and I transferred him to a public school.
I grew up w/ Father Fitzgerald and I remember him to be a very loving Priest. Then I remember, for the LONGEST time Fr. Valentino, Father Val for short. He was a character and spoke his mind....in a gentle "Father-Like" way.
The grounds are spendid and so well kept..... it's like home and I smile when I visit the area (about 5 hours from me now).
Thank you "Vis" for being in my life.
PROS: It's like Home
This is a difficult review to write. My son attended the Voyageur Outward bound "trip" awhile back. 28 days in the wilderness. They paddled in teams for 111 miles and I forgot how many miles of portage they did. It was greuling and MEANT to be this way. The point was Choice and Consequence. Good choice = good consequence. Example, if they paddled and completed the chores on time, and made dinner, cleaned up and HUNG their packs from trees (so bears couldn't get them) then they got to go to bed early and be ready for the next day. Bad choice would be if they were arguing about cooking.... so everything was late, the food tasted bad but they still had to do all the other chores...BUT didn't get to sleep until, oh, 2am...and be back up at sunrise to start the day all over.
It was very difficult on the kids (mine was 14) and it was supposed to be. They HAD to learn to get along w/ each other -- just like in the real world
They gained confidence too ---- but were scared.
At the end of their journey they had to do community service, that's always good.
At least one parent MUST attend a 3 day seminar and learn about what the kids did, and how to help them straighten out their lives. Really, I couldn't figure out WHY three days and what they possibly could talk about....but it was worth it... and very interactive.
HOWEVER the following year, an 'instructor' was killed in the wilderness. A freak storm hit, from what I understand, and he was struck by lightening. The kids and other instructor (only 2 instructors for each team) had to row the body to the nearest Ranger station as they carry NO radios or anything.
PROS: choice v consequence
A while ago, my son had TERRIBLE problems with a used vehicle he had just purchased a few weeks prior. He came to my home and the car, AGAIN, stalled and it just wouldn't start. He finally had to call somebody to tow it and he phoned Don's Auto as they were close by at the time.
What a stroke of luck. The owner came out and hooked up his vehicle. He listened to how my son had just purchased it not too long ago...how he had to take it back to "the shop" which was about 55 miles away on so many occassions. My son was so frustrated - plus it was the LAST of his money he'd be giving the owner just to TOW the vehicle.
Yes, they fixed it and my son borrow the money I believe to pay this off. The owner did NOT charge him for the tow. He took ME aside and quietly told me that when a dealer sells a car "as is" -- it doesn't necessarily mean "as is." I won't say what he told me --- but I'll just put that my son got his money back plus some for the repairs WITHOUT having to go to court.
This man is one class act. He told me that he too sells used vehicles --- and it's other dealers that can give EVERYBODY a bad name. True enough. I won't forget his kindness.
PROS: Honest, Caring, Credible, VERY Helpful
It was our parents Golden Anniversary. It was also the day of festivities for Oktoberfest which means it's literally NUTS around here. We needed an anniversary cake - DELIVERED to a yacht across the bridge. No other bakery would help us due to the fast paced business they'd all be running. Except CONSUMER'S BAKERY did. They were SO HELPFUL. When they found out this was a Golden Anniversary they did something to the "yellow cake" batter and turned it GOLDEN in color. EVERYBODY there asked where we got such a beautiful cake...and when they tasted it, ooo la la, many asked for the name of the bakery too!
Another "pro" to this that I put my name in a cyber hat and a website drew it out. I won a 1/2 sheet cake. Perfect timing for my father's and son's fiance's birthday in July! PERFECT.
This is a very nice bunch of people....very accomodating and very good bakery items!
PROS: Excellence all around
The Island Girl, modern, elegant and fairly good priced. We booked the upper portion of this yacht for our parents Golden Wedding Anniversary. They were so very accomodating to us. They gave recommendations on where to get a cake, how to dress (for the weather) and had a great selection of menu's available. Everything went without a hitch and EVERYBODY had a great time.
PROS: Very accomodating
