They make their own ice cream, and their not afraid to experiment. Only at Mitchell's can you get taro ice cream and a lot of other unorthodox ice cream flavors. Always a treat...
PROS: They feature special flavors depending upon the season.
CONS: If it's hot, there's a line down the street.
The people at Shum's are nice, professional, and very honest. It's hard to fine a mechanic you can trust, and I trust Shum's so much that if they told me they were opening a daycare, I would leave my kids with them.
PROS: Great people, reasonable prices, very honest
Honestly, I first went into the Eezy Freezy because of the name, but it's a convenient little market and liquor store. The staff is friendly, and they really do have a pretty good assortment of produce and dairy products.
PROS: You can buy lottery tickets here!
CONS: Parking in West Portal is terrible...
Enjoy just a massage or both a massage and bath. The atmosphere is relaxing, and the staff is professional. I usually get the Swedish massage, although the therapists will ask you what you really want, opting to mix up techniques rather than stick with one type.
PROS: Great people. Plus, there's validated parking in the nearby lot.
CONS: Sometimes you can hear street noise.
Although they serve very tasty sushi, the menu is packed with noodle and tofu dishes that will make you think twice about just doing sushi. Definitely try the fishcake!
PROS: You usually don't have to wait to be seated.
CONS: Parking can be a drag...
Whether you sit at the sushi bar or at a table, service will be great and the food delicious. They even have a tatami room if you want to sit on the ground (which I recommend if you have small children).
PROS: Delicious food, friendly staff.
CONS: It gets packed very quickly.
The food is excellent, from inexpensive lunch plates (including soup) to savory family-style noodle, meat, and vegetable dishes. Be sure to get the garlic noodles!
PROS: They can usually take large groups without waiting.
CONS: Parking can be a headache.
This is truly San Francisco-style sushi, with a laid back Haight-Ashbury vibe. The sushi is delicious and the staff friendly. This is not the place for a quick bite, though. Be prepared to sit back and relax for awhile.
PROS: This is a great place to catch up with friends.
CONS: When it's packed, turnover can be slow.
This is the place to go if you're looking to buy everyday Chinese and Japanese plates, bowls, and other things. The selection is large, and the prices are very reasonable.
PROS: You can find the things you've seen other places, but for half the price.
CONS: Parking is very, very hard...
Here, you can actually find someone to help you--you know, the kind of person who can actually answer your questions! My experience has always been very good.
PROS: Listen to Radiohead while shopping...
CONS: Parking in West Portal can be trying...
