Quickly

San Mateo, CA Restaurants 11/12/05: 'I Love Quickly!'

The best milk tea's in the Bay Area! I love Quickly! Right now they are having .99 cent special for bubble milk tea (no tapioca) but I have ordered other drinks at regular price and they are very good. My favs have to be the Taro, Regular Bubble Milk Tea, Honeydew, and Durian. The owner is a bit strange as he is caucasion (the only Quickly caucasion owner currently in existence) but he's quite ambitious. I can't wait to try the popcorn chicken some day.

Taco Bell

San Mateo, CA Mexican Restaurants 11/12/05: 'Very Good Service - Good Food'

Ever since they torn down the "old" Taco Bell and built this new one the service has consistently been top notch. I can tell the employees genuinely care about service. The food on the other hand is typical fast food: cheap, fattening, greasy, but tasty! =D

Mr Fongs Restaurant

San Mateo, CA Family Restaurants 11/12/05: 'Very Good Food'

We ate here for my Dad's 60th Bday party and it was a great occasion. The food is very good, especially the seafood. The location is great because it is close to home and the scenery is beautiful as it is located on Edgewater's Shopping Center's waterfront.

Ihop Restaurant

San Mateo, CA American Restaurants 11/12/05: 'Very Good Food, Little Pricey'

I like to order the spaghetti, but in the past I have also ordered their breakfast with country biscuits and pancakes. The food is consistently good here. The waiters are professional and courteous and they are fairly prompt.

The prices are a little higher than I would like them to be, but this is a restaurant. Eating here is a bit like eating at Denny's, good food, "decent" prices.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers

San Mateo, CA Hamburger Restaurants 11/12/05: 'Good Food Not So Good Prices'

I ordered a standard cheeseburger with fries and drink. The cheeseburger was very tasty, complete with onions, plenty of lettuce, a large succulent beef patty, cheese oozing out, and two slices of tomatoes.

The food was hot, fresh, tasty, and served up quickly. The waitress was very courteous and professional, but the price tag was more than I wanted to swallow.

This place has very good food, but it is pricey.

Pho Little Saigon

San Mateo, CA Vietnamese Restaurants 11/12/05: 'Ok Food Service Could Be Better'

Ordered basic beef noodles (no soup). It was served up with some carrots, green onions, peanuts, and a tangy orange colored sauce that I wound up pouring over the noodles to make it tastier. The beef was very salty, and tasty, but tasted kind of cheap. It had a consistency that made me wonder if I was going to get sick after I left, but I didn't.

I came inside and helped myself to a menu. The young man standing on the other side of the counter never bothered to ask me if I wanted to sit down at a table, or look at a menu, or suggest any dishes. I probably could have stood there all day long and he never would have said a word.

Finally I ordered the food and he asked me if I wanted it to go. I said "no I want it for here." Then he finally invited me to sit down. That's really good service there...not! If you see someone coming into a restaurant the 1st thing you do is ask them how many in your party? Or, would you like a table? Or, is this to go? Or, would you like to see a menu? You don't just stand there like a mute.

Anyways, the price was around $7. They gave me a large bowl with plentiful meat and some veggies so I can't say I didn't get enough to eat. The place was ok, but I don't plan on going back anytime soon.

Rickshaw Corner Restaurant

San Mateo, CA Restaurants 11/12/05: 'Good Food At A Good Price - Served Up Hot and Fast!'

I like this place. I have been eating here for the past 25 years. The prices for their 1 and 2 item lunch special are around $4 which is very reasonable. Other places charge as much as $5 for 1 item such as Mr. Chau's.

The green beans are very good. They are usually prepared by the manager himself. I know because whenever I pass by I see him sitting there splitting the beans by hand. I have ordered them on many occasion and they are always fresh.

The Dai Chin Chicken is also very good. The prices combined with fast friendly service make this place a recommend!

Waterfront Pizza

I have lived in Foster City for 25 years and have been eating at this pizza place before they were called "Waterfront Pizza". The current management serves up good vegeterian pizzas, although the recent price increase keeps me from calling this a great deal.

I eat at this place about once a month and I have never EVER seen it overcrowded. There are always tables open and if you can't find one inside the restaurant there are also tables located outside on the waterfront.

The owners are middle eastern and they always have a large contingent of family and friends over. They like to sit in the large table in the main dining room (in the center of the room across from the bar) eating and chatting away. I'm not denigrating them, they are really nice people. They have on more than one occasion cooked me up a pizza after business hours. They are "down home" friendly, but be aware if you are ordering take out because if you are waiting at a table they will not notify you. You have to keep checking intermittently or you will sit there forever.

College Of San Mateo

San Mateo, CA Colleges & Universities 11/11/05: 'Satisfactory'

The best thing I like about CSM is the proximity to my home. The campus location is drop dead gorgeous. There are breath taking views of the San Francisco Bay and surrounding mountains. Deer can often be seen grazing on the campus as the area is kinda wild.

CSM is not too far from the San Francisco watershed whose land is guarded very tightly and kept wild because it is the source of water for everyone in the Bay Area. There are views of multimillion dollar homes from the northern part of campus as well as some short hiking trails.

I have a BOG fee waiver so CSM is not expensive. I only have to pay for books. The teachers are good. They do their jobs professionally and are knowledgeable in their respective fields. If you come here to get an education you will receive your money's worth.

In my opinion there's nothing special about CSM. I have never heard anyone praising their nursing program and when I was in High School everyone thought of CSM as a "springboard" for getting into UC Berkeley.

The library is large quiet and beautiful, however, people have expressed concerns about potential health hazards of asbestos.

Chabot College

Hayward, CA Colleges & Universities 11/11/05: 'Love This School'

I spent the last 4 years of my life at Chabot College and it has been a wonderful ride. I have gotten to know many students and faculty over the years and I have many good memories.

I can't think of too many negatives. They are getting more and more expensive each year. When I started it was $11/unit; when I left it was $29/unit!

Chabot College could be the best deal on the peninsula. I was in the Dental Hygiene program and with my BOG fee waiver (which covered tuition) for the two years I spent in Dental Hygiene school I estimate it cost me less than $10,000. Considering I am making $400/day as a hygienist now which is comparable to many other Doctorate professions such as Optometrists and Pharmacists I can say this is a great deal!

Chabot also has a nursing program which will allow students to become licensed nurses.

Add in the fact that Chabot College is located strategically in the middle of the San Francisco bay area south of San Francisco and Oakland, north of San Jose and Silicon Valley, and it's accessible to everyone! There are other dental hygiene schools in the Bay Area, but they are located much further in any of the 4 directions and are nowhere near the "center" of the Bay Area.

Lastly, the counselors are extremely patient and try to help you with all your questions. They are also very knowledgeable and can generally steer you in in the right direction.

PROS: Faculty are great, inexpensive, great programs
CONS:
