Livia Fremouw's photography is amazing! Not only are her technical skills terrific, but she captures fleeting moments with ease. She has a wonderful rapport with children, allowing the photoshoot to be relaxed yet productive. Her work with newborns is some of the best I've seen. I'm SO glad that she asked me if we wanted to newborn shots. I hadn't really thought about it before then. It's been many years that Livia has been photographing my family and it just gets better and better!
Evergreen Nutrition is a perfect place to explore for supplements, vitamins and minerals to help you feel your best. I've gone in several times with questions and the employees are always knowledgeable and provide several solutions. They don't claim to be doctors and will not try and persuade you into trying any one product. They do their best and offer information about all the things that they sell.
Just walking into Gervais and smelling all the great Aveeda products, cuts your stress in half (or less). Gervais offers massages, pedicures, manicures, cut and colors, make-up consultations, etc. Their massage area is awesome, with private showers, where they leave you to rinse with chocolates and some kind of rehydration. I had a facial, pedicure and manicute before my wedding and it was fantasic. I also did a make-up trial and the artist agreed to come to my house on the morning of my wedding because the salon was closed.
The Modern store is like the Museum of Modern Art come to life. Lots of things that I have found in the MOMA catalog, I have found at Modern as well. They have unique items that you won't find elsewhere. I've purchased several pieces of glassware, bowls, etc for wedding gifts and they are always well received. The owner is really dedicated to her business and is there almost all the time ready to offer help or suggestions. I only wish I had a LOT more disposable income to spend there!
We went looking for a full mattress set for our guest bedroom several years ago . We didn't need a great mattress as it wouldn't be used that often, but we wanted something decent. We shopped around and ended up at Brenner's. They seemed to have the best deal at the time and a decent selection. We ordered a mattress and after being told several times that it would be there and then it wasn't delivered, we finally got our set. The only problem was that they tried to send a lesser quality set without telling us. We called right away and they tried to convince us that it was what we ordered. Clearly, we knew what we purchased and had the receipt to prove it. They finally made good on their sale, but it took a while.
It's almost impossible to find an auto garage that is trustworthy, where you don't have to worry about being ripped off about something you know very little. At least that's the way it has been for me. Wayne's garage is an honest group of hardworking guys, who provide good estimates and follow through. In my experience, they can be a little more expensive than other places, but they ONLY do work that is required and don't try and coerce you into having things done that aren't necessary. If you ask them a question, they will be truthful.
Beppe & Giannis is definitely one of the best restaurants in Eugene. Parking is definitely not great, but you can usually find something on a neighboring street. The restaurant is small, but the food is big in flavor. They almost always have a ravioli of the day and it is unique and amazing. It gets very crowded quickly, so it's always best to go early. It's close proximity to campus makes it a great place to take potential faculty/students.
One of the great things about Winter Green Farm is their food box program. Essentially, you join for a season, purchasing a full or half box, which is delivered to various locations around the area. You find your box, empty it's contents and enjoy. They include a newsletter with recipes each week, which is great, for some of the less common veggies. Everything is super fresh, and often still covered with dirt!
It's amazing that you can walk into a room full of 3 and 4 year olds and hear little more than a dull roar. Each child picks and activity of interest and returns materials when they are finished. Kids learn all the Montessori rules remarkably fast. I was surprised and impressed. There is a great assortment of activities for the kids and lots of "Montessori" exclusives that are fun and educational.
We have been really pleased with EEI since my daughter began at 15 months. The teachers are excellent and there isn't nearly as much turn over as with other schools. Teachers are treated well and in return treat the children with love and respect. One of the great features of EEI is that they are open a lot of the days that other places and the schools are closed. (Veteran's Day for example) Prices for these vacation days are included in the tuition for the two youngest groups of kids. Prices seem a tad higher than other centers in the area, but totally worth it.
