Staples Center
This stadium is just plain awesome. It is really nice seeing in person the outside view of the place where the laker's play basketball, and what you see on tv all the time. Inside it is a really big stadium, what you would expect a modern basketball stadium to be. My brother even got to play on the court one time for an event, and it's really wierd because the backboards are clear, and since it's so big, it can really mess up your shot. Nothing but good experiences here though.
La Canada Books & Toys
This is a nice small toy store, more oriented towards little kids under teenage years. They have lots of stuffed animals and playsets. In high school I we would always have to pick up our english reading books here and the people were always friendly (I knew all the student workers). My mom goes here a lot to pick up gifts for young cousins and is never disatisfied with either the price or service.
La Canada Video
this video store is the other main video rental store in my city besides blockbuster. We always went here though because of the super cheap rentals compared to blockbuster. The only problems that I can see now are the competitveness of the online movie places. Also, for new releases, you can only rent movies out for a day or two. The service people are nice, I actually know most of them because most of them were student workers.
Glendale 76
since this is the gas station that is the closest to college, I use it a lot. Prices are still kinda high on the west coast, about 2.50 since I last checked, but 76 is cheaper than the surrounding gas stations by at least a few cents. The machines are never broken (like the chevron is right now) and i've never bad a bad experience there.
Descanso Gardens
Since I live in La Canada, I have been to Descanso gardens quite a few times. It is filled with beautiful plants and trees and a winding walkway that takes you all around the park. I have gone there also to support my friends who were playing a quartet there as part of a band function. It is a really nice atmosphere and a must see if you ever pass by La Canada.
Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens
Wow the LA zoo brings back such good memories. It isn't any different from your typical zoo, although it is a blast for kids when they are younger. I remember my mom lost me at the zoo, but she eventually found me looking at the lions. I also tricked my uncle and aunt into giving me soda when I was really little by telling them I always drank it. So many good memories there and I would definately take my kids there if/when I get any :).
Moonlight Rollerway Skating
Wow, it has been ages since I've been to this roller rink, but I've had fond memories of it to this day. This place was very popular for me and my friends, and kids in general, to have birthday parties at. Everyone had fun rollerskating around really fast and sometimes falling down. I remember on birthdays we would always play limbo on rollers skates and I could never win. An awesome experience though, would like to go there again.
Jewel City Bowl
This bowling alley is pretty decent, although it can tend to run on the expensive side at night and you should really call first to see if they're having league games there. Me and my friends had to leave just because all of the lanes were filled up many times. It's a decent experience if you can get a lane though. Also if you go when it's crowded, the ball choice sucks, just absolutely sucks.
All Star Lanes
This bowling lane is right next to my college (occidental) and even though it doesn't look the nicest, it definately makes up for it in price. I first went there for a Korean Student Association (I'm japanese by the way, but we're just diverse like that) meeting, and was suprised to find out that it only cost like 15 bucks an hour to rent out a lane (you can put as many people as you want on it). This is much cheaper when comparing to other places where it costs 10 bucks just for one game and shoes.
Pasadena Ice Skating Ctr
I've been to this ice skating rink for quite some time now and I've had awesome memories from it. One was from after prom and about twenty of us all rented out the rink at midnight and played broomball for about 3 hours (you get a stick, a ball, and you're in tennis shoes) and we had an absolute blast. The rink is of decent quality too, with a few video games on the side to boot.
