People's Pharmacy #1
The pharmacists here take great care of you. They are on top of things and are very knowledgeable. They are quite friendly. There is a wide variety of products in this store....different from a regular pharmacy. This place is way more Austintatious. They also have this fantastic little deli. In the morning, they whip up great breakfast tacos, slim fast shakes, smoothies, etc. And at lunch time, great sandwiches, baked potatoes, soups. Back in the day, they even used to deliver within a few blocks. Not sure if they still do....but if you work or live nearby, give 'em a ring and ask! Stop in! Oh, and did I forget to mention that sometimes they have 2 die 4 chocolate covered strawberries!
PROS: Very customer friendly, unique, great deli
CONS:
Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas
This is the best idea ever! Why hasn't this place been around forever! Dinner, movie, and drinks! Awesome! It's a can't miss. Hubby and I are able to go out on a "date" sometimes...but we don't always have a lot of time, so the Alamo Drafthouse is perfect for us. The food isn't bad, the drinks are better! And something else I appreciate, we have even been able to take the kids to certain kid friendly shows. Granted, the theatre can be very crowded with a lot of kids, but the kids enjoy the show and Mom & Dad still get a drink! Oh, and Tuesdays used to be Bring your baby day to the Lake Creek location. I'm not sure if they still do that....you'd think with a one year old I'd check into that!
PROS: FUN!
CONS:
Mann's Smokehouse Bar-B-Q
My 8 year old LOVES the food here. Well, so do I, actually! The BBQ really is superb, just simply top notch. When you order, they ask you "lean or a little bit of flavor." I swear by the lean & hubby swears by "little bit of flavor." The staff here is also outstanding. They are nice. I mean down home just really super friendly! They have a VIP members club. Don't let that scare you, it's free! You get a monthly newsletter with some great coupons and tells you what's going on that month. Sometimes they have homemade ice cream...YUM! About a year ago, they did this fantastic promo....customer appreciation day....where your plate was FREE all day! You can't beat that!
PROS: great food, VERY friendly service, very customer friendly
CONS:
Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q
The BBQ is simply great! You get it how you like it, trimmed, with fat, whatever. I prefer the MOIST here. MMM.... The prices at Rudy's are also great. Nothing seems to be overpriced. You can come in in shorts and a t-shirt and fit in. You can come in after church and fit in. We have had Rudy's on Easter Sunday. I even went to a rehearsal dinner at Rudy's! Here is something else that you can't beat! If you have a large party, you can order AND get your food rather quickly! Awesome!
PROS: great food, quick fast, friendly service
CONS:
Buffalo Exchange
Buffalo Exchange can have some great finds. Once, I found a BRAND NEW WITH TAGS Kate Spade red leather purse. It was awesome. It retailed for $595 & I got it at Buffalo Exchange for $60. Great deal in my book. The staff here tries to be as trendy as the store. Sometimes they can be quite annoying. Sometimes the customers in there are real pains in the...you get where I'm going. I made a large purchase in there a while back....tons of clothes. Found out I was pregnant, and took them back, not to return them, just to resell them. They told me they weren't "trendy or hip" enough. WHen I explained that I had BOUGHT them at that very store 2 weeks before, they still told me no way!
PROS: cool stuff, good prices, trendy
CONS: when you sell-they don't give you a good price
Stepping Stone School-McNeil/Jollyville
My daughter was enrolled in Stepping Stone when she was in 1st grade. They picked her up after school & she would stay there until we got off work. About a month after enrollment, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. This meant I had to train the staff. This staff, well, to put it politely, they had no brains. They could not figure out what to do or how to do it. When I provided specific food for my daughter, they would not give it to her OR they would be nasty to me about storing some carrots in their fridge. Twice, they let her have a free for all with the food....all the cookies, crackers, hot dogs that she wanted. Nice, her blood sugar shot up in the 500's and she was hospitalized. Once, they would not let her go to the bathroom. She was told that she had gone too many times. Frequent urination is a symptom of HIGH blood sugar. Ahh...but all these PALE in comparison to the time that they LEFT HER AT THE SCHOOL and didn't even know it until I called them to tell them what was going on. She had been found wandering the halls looking for the Stepping Stone staff about 30 minutes after school. If you have a diabetic child, you know how severaly dangerous this is. This place is not equipped to take care of a dog let alone a child!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PROS: none
CONS: inadequate staff, overpriced, dirty & unsafe facilities, discrimination
Chuy's
Oh, yes, and let's not forget the margaritas!! YUM!! I love the environment, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the food! My favorite is the Chicken Flautas with the creamy jalapeno sauce. It is so good! My hubby prefers the chimichanga! Oh, yes, and let's not forget to mention the deserts. I love those sopapillas! They are sinfully good! I can forgive them for calling the cops on Jenna Bush (and I don't even like her dad!) for their yummy food!
PROS: great food, fun atmosphere
CONS: long waits
JC's steakhouse
Hubby and I have been here a few times & have always had a great experience. They have Prime Rib Specials on Fridays, once we both got that and thought it was divine. This past weekend, we got a babysitter, and went to JC's for dinner. We had planned to see a movie afterwards. This time, we both decided to try the BBQ plates, and let me tell you, it was absolutely sinfully delicious. I got the brisket/pork loin platter & it was simply wonderful. I am also very picky when it comes to potato salad, but theirs was WONDERFUL. To our delight, they had a sing along piano singer that night. We had an amazing time! We even opted to stay at JC's & skip the movie, have a few drinks in the bar, and enjoy the piano singer....who was a ton of fun! Two thumbs up for JC's
PROS: Great service, amazing staff, delicious food, fun atmosphere, great drinks
