Magnolia's Bookstore
If you're looking for something in particular, Sometimes it can be a little sketchy -- but only because your expectations are higher at this crossover bookstore than they'd be at a B&N or Borders. And there's a great wealth of books to be found here in the sale stacks. Definitely worth a browsing trip uptown. I go here just to browse it to pick something up to read on a journey around the town.
PROS: Good Selection, Location
CONS:
Globe Books
This specialized store is primarily for budding theatrical types. It's so nice to have a place that stocks almost every play imaginable. The staff is helpful though often overburdened. The people who work in the store are great - very good at learning their customers but they give you all the space you need. Whenever I order a book, it's generally in within a day or two and they always call promptly. We need to support our local bookstores.
PROS: looks old and new at the same time
CONS: not enough staff
Art Books Press
Twas a time when this place claimed to be the biggest used bookstore in the country. Having worked at B&N in Tacoma,Wa. I know that's far from true. Yet I like it better than its West coast counterpart. The selection is as varied; the atmosphere, much homier. Even while some times it spill out into the aisles, the books are organized well enough to find what you wish--and to stumble across what you hadn't considered. translation of "The Aeneid?" Sure Why not. In areas with little navigational room, fellow customers always understand the need to pass. One day, I chanced upon a copy of Robert Ferro's "The Others." Oh cool is that I thought. From what I can tell, the Gertrude Stein and the W.H. Auden leave the shelves quickly. And I've never seen such a wide selection of oversized coffee table books anywhere. And I have been alot of bookstores in the country.
PROS: Size/range of stock, browseable, people w/attitude
CONS:
Harvest Logos Bookstore
Is it perfect? No -- it's dusty, hot, etc. But it's the best of its kind. I won't argue that there aren't booksellers (B&N, etc.) who shine, but for those who are old enough to remember the treasure troves of booksellers, here is a reminder of what was. In the age of chains and Internet sales ( Amazon's e-shops, etc.) the walk around and touch the stock stores like these are limited species.
PROS: some treasures could be found here
CONS: Hot, Dusty, Staff w/attitude
Devrey Bookstore
Come on people...get some Air Conditioning? Who wants to spend more than 2 minutes looking for a book, when it's 300 degrees in your store? I dont want armpit stains after looking for a book again!! Clean the place up a little...get rid of the spiderwebs. Employ some people who aren't inked out and annoying to listen too. What happened to the customer always being right? Not here I felt like a battle of the geeks were going to break out any minute and I was going to win.
I love books, and you have great deals and rare finds..but who can put up with the atmosphere? Not I say the person with no tatoos or attitude..who is just looking for a rare find.
PROS: lots of books
CONS: HOT, Dirty, Poor Service
Evergreen Bookstore
While the upstairs is crowded, impossible to move around and seems to have no organizational qualities whatsoever, the downstairs with thousands of hard cover reviewers copies of new books is a new fiction lovers paradise! I'm never buying a new novel at regular price again!
PROS: found some awesome books here
CONS: crowded, disorganized, crew not helpful
Maid Brigade
After returning from our honeymoon in Mexico we came home to a very neat home. We were complexed on how our house got cleaned and so we found the business card and called and asked them why they came and cleaned our house, not that we were complaining. They said it was a wedding gift from a freind of the family and that it was free for a year!! We are really enjoying our service with them. And will continue using them for as long as needed.
PROS: cleaned great, smelled great, looked great
CONS: they were just great
Magic Maid
One day I came home and the house was cleaned from one end to the other. I was suprised I looked everywhere for a trace of something that someone had been there and found none! I called the place and asked if they had come over today and they said yes they had. And I told them I was really intrigued on how they cleaned it so well and they told me to go into the master bathroom and look for a card. And there it was ....the business card. I laughed and thanked them for a job well done.
PROS: darn good cleaning, on time, very organized
CONS: nothing yet
Mighty Maids
It is a family business I guess, here they have a family come in and clean the whole house while you are out. They are great and fun to be around plus they are not to spendy for a "maid" sevice. More people makes the job go faster there are 4 of them and they come right in and get to work. Its no stopping them when they get started. And when they finish they leave the house in the most fabulous condition ever! I was very impressed!
PROS: more than one worker, very clean job
CONS: one worker didn't wear a hair net
Merry Maids
This housecleaner is the wonderful houseclear that everyone wants and is looking for this day in age. With everyone being so too busy to clean thier own house they do it for you in a new york minute. I don't know how they do it i wish i could get the secret for it. But they do a great job and I am glad that i pay for it in the end so I don't have to break my back doing what someone else does so well.
PROS: they know the secret to doing a good cleaning job
CONS: nothing
