Jolly's is the place to be in warmer weather. This old-fashioned hot dog/rootbeer drive in is wonderful. The service it quick and their coneys are fabulous. You can buy gallons of their rootbeer, but half the fun is the experience of sitting in your car an having food delivered to your window. The place may look fairly outdated, but the food is good, the prices are cheap, and it's a fun place to go.
Fran's has the BEST sandwiches around! Fran's prices are incredibly low for what she gives you, and your sandwich is always big enough to split into two if you really want. I didn't even like egg salad, but she convinced me otherwise. She makes the best egg salad ever!!! She and Dave are so helpful and friendly and we have had wonderful experiences when using Fran's to cater some meals!!! A plus!!!!
Jerry's Cheesecakes makes perhaps the best cheesecake I've ever eaten. They have a huge selection of flavors and each is just wonderful. Jerry's actually made my wedding cake, and their prices for wedding cakes were less expensive than many other popular places in the Greater Cincinnati Area. Our cake was beautiful, and we had four layers: White chocolate cheesecake, White Cake with Raspberry Filling, Red velvet cake, and a caramel swirl cheesecake. My favorite is the white chocolate cheesecake but everything is wonderful. For an even better treat, ask them to frost your cake. They have a great almond-y flavor icing that is wonderful paired with cheesecake. You can also just go in and buy individual slices of cheesecake for a quick snack or dessert. Great Place!
Cincinnati has a great downtown library. While it is much larger than many other branches, they have a great collection of books, periodicals, research material, etc. I love walking to the library on my lunch hour to find some new and interesting books. There is a small enclosed garden that is part of the library, and it is a wonderful place to sit and read in the summer. There are also chairs that face large windows to the garden which are nice, too. I haven't had any problems reserving a book or checking things out. They are very helpful!
All Occasions Event Rental is truly a one-stop shop for all wedding/event needs. Their prices are lower for most items than other local event retailers, and they carry EVERYTHING! From chairs and tables, to fine china, pillars and curtains, dance floors and fountains. They can transform any location into the perfect party or event. Their tents are huge and they offer delivery and pick-up. Very courteous employees too!
TR Gears Greenhouse store in West Chester is great. Their prices can be a bit high, but the quality of their shrubs, trees, flowers and plants is much better than the home improvement giants. The employees are very knowelegeable in the care of each type of plant as well as in different aspects of landscaping and design. I would recommend going here over all the chain store nurseries.
Cappels is great for their selection of inventory for just about every holiday and occastion. Their prices are reasonable, but they carry items that you can't find anywhere else. Recently a friend was throwing a cowboy party for her child, and Cappels sold cowboy party hats (not the pointy kind, but actually little cowboy hats) for children! What a find! Great party planning store!
Cincinnati is one of biggest arts and culture cities outside of New York and the like! Broadway shows are always coming through, and majority of the productions have been fantastic! No less than on Broadway in NYC! The venue at Aronoff Center is great, and shows are always well done. I don't particularly care for the canned music that they use most of the time, but the productions are still very good. Les Miserable is probably one of the best off-Broadway shows I have seen in Cincinnati, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was the most recent. Although I loved the music for Joseph this production did not seem as top-notch to me. Amy Adams as the Narrator was wonderful, but in my opinion Patrick Cassidy as Joseph left much to be desired.
We have searched high and low for a fireplace mesh screen - not the full front, just the mesh part. Our had gotten twisted and mangled and we didn't want to replace our full fireplace. None of the large home improvement stores could help us, but The Fire Place was more than helpful and their friendly staff helped us find what we were looking for! They also have a great selection of full fireplaces, inserts and accessories!
I suppose the end may justify the means in this case as Jim Bean does produce some good liquor, but the stench that comes from their factory as you drive past on I-75 is abominable! I understand that would happen anywhere they are located, but it's horrible to drive by to and from my way to work with such a smell. I can only imagine their facilities are even worse.
