La Diva
La Diva is a pretty high-end boutique. Their clothes are fun and funky but they can be expensive. The selection is pretty good but it's a small store so you can't always be sure they will have your size. It's decorated very well so it's fun to window shop even if you aren't in the market. They usually have a lot of different brands.
Muse
Muse has some very fun trendy clothes. They are always changing their window display so you have to go in often cause they are getting new stuff. They have a wide variety to choose from, they have casual stuff but you can also find some really classy, funky things for more formal occassions. It's not terribly expensive and the quality is really good.
Planet Beauty
Planet Beauty is a good place to stock up on all the essentials. They always have really good prices on Bed Head and Sebastian products. I usually listen to what the stylist tells me to use then go get it cheaper here! They also have dyes and tools for people who dye their own hair. Also, a big choice of fun brushes.
Fringe Salon
This is a great salon. The staff is very knowledgable and they are very talented. I went with a friend and we both came out with exactly what we were looking for. I would really recommend getting some highlights done, as this is the place to do it. They did a phenomenal job and looked great for a long time. It's not cheap but they really do an outstanding job. Funny enough that the products they sell are pretty cheap. Guess it balances the price of the color and cut.
Dome Farm & Flea
I was visiting relatives and they took me to this Flea Market and I was very surprised at the selection and quality of the goods. They have everything from shoes and clothing to toys and electronics. It was an impressive selection and GREAT prices. I picked up a bunch of books and t-shirts. I would go back for sure!
Hair Mates Hair Salon
If you are on a budget and can't afford to go to a fancy salon then this is the place. The cuts are cheap and they do a good job. I don't know if I would get something experimentive but they did a great job with a basic cut for me. The staff is nice (even if they aren't totally fluent in English) and they do really good work. Great place for a cheap cut.
Lotus Salon
I was hesitant to try this salon since it looked expensive and I wasn't sure I would get what I wanted. I went in on an impulse and they gave me a great consultation before I decided. They did the color and cut exactly as I imagined it. It wasn't cheap but it's New York and they did a great job, so it's worth it. Plus they promise that you can come back if you don't like it. I would really recommend them.
Chinese Herbal Center
The Chinese Herbal Center has a ton of really cheap spices that you can't find anywhere else. It is much cheaper to stock your kitchen at this place than the big chain grocerry stores. They also have a good variety of dried foods that you can stock up on. Basically, I go for the cheap spices and the exotic seasonings I can't find anywhere else.
Century Market
It can sometimes be hard to find a good variety of organic and natural food in New York. Century Market has a really impressive selection of organic EVERYTHING! No just produce. They have natural meats and cheeses as well as sauses and food accessories. The prices are reasonable and the selection is impressive.
Garden of Eden
Garden of Eden has the best selection of gourmet foods in this area. They have everything from specialty spices and sauces to caviar and meats. The prepared food is mediocre and too expensive. Come here to buy the specialty cooking supplies to make a wonderful meal at home. The produce is also much freshier than the produce at the big stores.
