You're going to find a lot of games and toys at this very specific shop for games and toys. I used to buy rockets for science here, you cannot really find them anywhere else. Unfortantely, with their speciality comes a cost and everything seems to cost a whole lot of money. The hobbies part of the name of the store is very true. It has everything for Dungeons and Dragons and lots of clothing for Boy Scouts. The staff is not very friendly unless you know something and have something in commong for Dungeons and Dragons.
Woodfin is a nice hotel. It's large and big, but that also at the same time makes it confusing. Each building is named A, B, C, etc. But, it is sprouled all over the large campus. Then it is hard to find your place to stay. Also, the staff is not very friendly, but they do take complaints. If you're looking for a place to stay for a little while you can get attached to this place. It has a clean pool, but a small place to do laundry.
PROS: Nice accomdations
CONS: The Staff
The Bancroft Hotel is a pretty place at night as you can easily see on their webpage. What I like best about the hotel is the very specific service to its customers. The staff is friendly and helpful and they are very oriented toward helping you. But it also is a small place and thus not many rooms. So it might be filled up. The parking lot is also quite small. The rooms, bed, etc are clean. Pricing is moderate for a city like Berkeley.
PROS: Near the University of California, centrally located.
CONS: Odd layout.
This is really a warehouse huge. Like as big as Costco. They have tons of tons of clothing. The college clothes selection is huge too. Unfortantely, it's all high priced, but there is really nowhere that you wont find high priced clothing for a college. The staff is really indifferent, but you do not really want someone to be breathing down your neck when you're shopping. Their prices for regular clothes like shoes from Converse are reasonable.
PROS: Reasonable prices for regular clothing
CONS: High Prices for college logo clothing
What do you want from a hotel? Clean sheets and room, moderate pricing, and friendly service. That's exactly what you get at the Hotel Durant. It's not the 5 Seasons in Paris with a five star rating and wine and bellhops to take your clothes off, but for a city like Berkeley, it is close enough. If you're having a meeting and want a place to put people, the Hotel Durant is a terrific place to have it. Just as good as any hotel in Las Vegas or Reno for a meeting is the Hotel Durant. The dining place is also very, very nice. Possibly the nicest place in Berkeley to eat a quiet dinner.
PROS: Great Place for meeting.
CONS: Dining place is next to window and you see crummy students all the time.
The Ink Stone is a little shop to get your printing completed. The staff is very good and helpful. What's best about it is that they stop printing one hour before closing. Their hours are posted so you'll know when you need to get there buy. It's slightly hard to find, but the huge banner is easy to see if you're looking. Go up a flight of stairs and be immersed in this world of ink and printing. This store also offers other things such as pens and pencils at a high cost though.
PROS: Efficient Employees
This store is basically a shipping store but specified. You can find the packing tape and boxes to fit your stuff in. The staff is 100 times more friendly than any United States Postal Service office I've ever been too and a little more friendly than any UPS store. If you're looking to buy some shipping material then you can find it pretty easily. From the website, it appears that it also does web site design. There website looks to be pretty clean and so are the other websites they have made. It might cost more than to buy stuff at other places, but I'm not 100% sure.
PROS: Good helpful employees
So this is a very, very specific store. It's for people who like trendy shoes. If you do not like trendy, expensive shoes. Then there is no point for you to even consider this store. It has the latest brands and the style of this store's shoes is more a skater type of shoe. But then it also has bright and colorful shoes being sold. The shop is very small, but it has maybe 25 shoes selling in it. The staff is friendly and helpful.
PROS: Friendly staff
The place is pretty empty usually because it costs a good amount of money to play there. But if you're going to have a party and need computers to have good internet access or LANed computers, this is a terrific place. The chairs are very comfortable, the computer equipment for the games or anything anyone would really need is superb, and it's a very comfortable enviorment. Still, there really is no point in playing games there unless you do not own your own computer because it costs so much money.
PROS: Good enviorment
This store sells cards, postcards, books, posters, etc. It's a tiny store next to the University of California, Berkeley. The packed-ness adds to the feeling that the store is homely. Seriously, it is packed with stuff. Its specialty is cards with pictures on them and they have a whole bookcase full of it. If you're looking for a perfect postcard of a dog looking cute or various other interesting and unique types of postcards pictures or greeting cards this is the place to buy and find it.
PROS: You'll find exactly what you're looking for.
CONS: Store is super packed.
