Dr. Fred Farahi's office is great for dental work. The staff is friendly from beginning, when you check in, to the end, when the dental assistant tells you you can leave. They work through your insurance plans (even if yours aren't the greatest, which mine wasn't.) The staff took it upon themselves to deal with the people at the insurance so I didn't have to, to find me the lowest price they could. They definitely went above the call. Everyone there makes the difference that makes them a step above the rest.
I have always gotten good quality plants and flowers from Blue Mount, but they are a little overpriced. If I don't have a coupon from the paper or it's big planting season, I try not to go because it gets very crowded and costs so much. I did however get some reasonably priced slate pieces for my yard arrangement, and had my pick. The delivery was prompt and came when expected. Another downside is that when it gets crowded, it's hard to find employees to help you.
This place is SOOO good! It's similar to Chipotle in that you stand in a line and choose from several options of burritos, tacos, salads and nachos. But Qdoba has more options than Chipotle and tastes more fresh. Plus, it has more seating, so you can actually go there at lunchtime. There portions are huge, so you can take your food home to eat at another time. Priced very reasonably as well.
Maggie Moo's is very similar to the type of ice cream you get at Cold Stone Creamery. The ice cream is so smooth and flavorful, and they roll the toppings you pick into the ice cream right in front of you! The thing about this place is, because the preparation of your ice cream concoction takes a few minutes, the line can get really long, especially in the summertime or on weekends. Going on a weekday or off-hours is my suggestion. They also have ice cream cakes in several sizes for sale.
Manhattan Pizzeria has great New York style pizza, served on a high platter, with thin crust and lots of cheese, just like in New York. But besides pizza, they also have other Italian foods such as spaghetti and calzones, they have sub sandwiches too. The prices are good and the food is very tasty. The ambiance could be better, it is a little plain with not a lot of decoration, but all the food I've had there has been great.
The Old Brogue is worth a trip to Great Falls. It has authentic Irish fare that is very reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is in an old building, so the floors squeak and the ceilings are low and there are a lot of rooms, but it makes for a very intimate dining experience. Plus, they have a wonderful Irish Stew.
Jimmy's is a great, original bar smack dab in the heart of old town Herndon. The regulars make you feel like home and the food is great and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend the cheese logs. Plus, during football season if you're a Buffalo Bills fan, they get every single Bills game all season long since Jimmy (the owner) is originally from there.
The Ashburn Pub is a favorite hangout for people that work at AOL. I don't work at AOL, but have friends that do and I've gone with them before and often the entire place is employees of AOL. Also, I have noticed that if you are not a regular, the bartenders can act a little snobby toward you. But they have the BEST hamburgers and on Tuesdays they are half off!
As a new Loudoun County resident, the Catholic Church I was supposed to go to was St. Theresa's. I started attending mass, and have been very impressed by the nice people in the congregation and the priests. However, I am getting a little tired of the fact that every week, mass is in the Catholic School gym. They keep saying they are saving money to build a church, but they have been saying that for a LONG time. Also, there are MANY young children that attend this church with their parents. If crying children annoy you at church, then this is not the place for you.
I went to AA Driving Academy to take the final test for an online Virginia Driver's Program to get points taken off my license. This was one of the approved spots to take the test. You had to take it in person on one of their computers for verification. When I first got there, I had to wait 10 minutes just to speak to someone. There were only two people there and one didn't speak English and the other was on the phone. Then, after they set me up on the computer, their Internet didn't work. I know this is somewhat out of their control, but for a business that relies a lot on the Internet, I wasn't impressed. However the people were very friendly...
