Absolutely the NICEST people around! From the front desk to the staff in back that help you load and learn the ropes of the machinery you're renting, everyone is friendly and helpful! If you need suggestions about what specific equipment you might need, they KNOW their stuff! I have only had trouble with one item, a tiller and they had another that I came and picked up, they tacked on an extra hour with the new one and I got the job done! Equipment is always in working order, clean and they top off the gas and show you how to run it before you leave.

As the other reviewer stated, the hobby selection is expensive and limited. And it seems like they do not often get new stock. But I mainly go there for fish supplies anyway! Their fish section is very good! They have a good selection of foods, filter accessories and fish themselves. Their small pet section on the other hand is dissapointing. I don't like to see small pets in stores anyway, when there are so many needing to be adopted after people grew tired of them. But their small pets/reptile room always smells like urine, it's small and enclosed with poor ventilation and the animals are often overcrowded (rabbits, rats, mice, guinea pigs) The selection of cat adn dog products is large for the size of the store and prices are comparable to otehr pet stores.
PROS: Great fish section
CONS: Poor small animal/reptile area, animals cramped
The urbana park district has a great programming schedule. They offer a lot of camps and acitvities for kids and in coordination with Champaign, they have a great dance program and special recreation program. They also have some fun adult offereings like englsih country dancing and hobby classes for knitting and such. Where I think they're lacking in is the large special events. Most of the larger events are geared at children, like Breakfast with the bunny and their daddy daughter date night.mother son night. They do work with Champaign on taste of champaign-urbana, but most of their own events are either specialty events or smaller neighborhood get-togethers in the parks. Which is fine and good to get those neighbbors together but I love to see a whole community event that gets everyone excited about their town and gets them out in the community together. Urbana seems more focused on smaller events and childrens programming.
PROS: Lots of kids programs and speciality events
CONS: No large community event
The Champaign Park District really does have a ton of things to do throughout the year. We are lucky to have in our community a real park district, not just a park department. We probably take for granted to wonderful special events such as taste of champaign Urbana that they put on for us. They have a wonderful dance program, and the cooperate with Urbana on many of the programs, including their Special Recreation programs, which are such a blessing for many families. Their summer camps and school break camps help working parents and give children great experiences. The only thing I find is that their adult programming is geared toward specific hobbies and if you're not interested in one of those hobbies (woodworking, knitting) then you're out of luck hen it comes to park district programs. They do have wonderful fitness programs for adults though! And who couldn't stand a little more physical activity?
PROS: Wonderful variety for kids, teens
CONS: Adutl program offerings a little thin
Art Coop has a few items that are hard to find elsewhere which is the only reason anyone outside of campus would go there. But for students it is very convinient, which is probably how it has survived. I find the prices to be WAY higher than other craft/hobby stores on town. They do have things other than art supplies, like children's toys/craft kits but those are usually expensive as well. I always try other stores first before having to find parking on campus and pay their higher prices.
PROS: some hard to find items
CONS: Expensive, no parking
Natural Gourmet has a great variety of prepackaged items for the vegetarian. It is the only place in town were we can find Beef-Not from Dixie's Diner, which I am happy to have a local supply of! Sometimes, they are out though and we have to wait until they get their next shipment and lately they have only had a limited selection, namely only turkey-flavor, not beef. The majority of their products seem to be health products like supplements and natural cures, which I am not interested in at all so a great portion of the store is not of any use to me. I like to look at their snack foods and refrigerated items but find them WAY too pricey for me. I shop mostly in their bulk section, which I find to be a good deal price-wise. The counter people are friendly and the store i generally clean and well-lit. The aisle are a little cramped.
PROS: Good bulk section
CONS: store a little cramped space-wise
**UPDATE** Their new location is just about the nicest health food grocery I've been to! It's clean, well-lit, doesn't smell too much like hippies and if I lived in Urbana it would be just as convenient as a grocery store.
I was a member in college and was not overly impressed with their staff (made up of members) or their selection. But it has since been improved, with a larger floor plan, greater variety of foods and both fresh and boxed/canned. Even with these improvements though, if you can't find the time in your week to volunteer there to get a discount, most of these items can be found at other stores around town for the same price or less. In college, it was not difficult to pop over, work a few hours and pick up my groceries, but working full-time and with everything else that goes on in life, I don't have the time. For hardcore organic/vegans, this is a good place to shop, but for the average person who needs a few items a week to complete their menus, just pick them up at the grocery store.
PROS: Good deal if you can fit work hours into your schedule
CONS: Not as convenient as health section at supermarket
Both of my parents have had surgeries at this hospital and while I would rather not have had to go in at all, Provena did all they could to make me feel welcome, comfortable and safe. Starting at the front desk, the counter staff are always smiling and helpful. They understand you might be going through a tough time but don't patronize you. The whole building is always clean and well-lit, with warm touches like paintings and murals. I apprectiate that the religious aspects are present but not overly pushy or gaudy. The staff was always responsive to our questions, pleasant and helpful. The doctors seem a little rushed but I think that's the case everywhere you go. Te cafetaria is clean, spacious and includes a great variety of foods. I am thankful to Provena for making these times easier on us all.
PROS: Very friendly staff, clean facility
CONS: Doctors are a little rushed
I have been a member on and off for years. I participated in one of their motivational programs this year and loved it! What I ove most about the Fitness Center is their staff and their variety of classes. members can attend any class whenever they have time. The instructors are knowledgable and VERY friendly. And they have classes for beginner to advanced. They have a lot of great weight machines and free weights, treadmills and elipticals. And you can get a great deal on membership if you know someone who's already a member. They always say hello and goodbye, the instructors remember your name from class to class and really take an interest in your progress. They have good programs to help you reach your goals, like body assessments, incentive programs and personal trainers. I Love the fitness center! Their locker rooms are recently upgraded and they have childcare (I do not have children so I can't comment on it but I know a lot of people take advantage of the service.)
PROS: Great staff, love the classes offered, clean
CONS: None really other than it's not 24 hours like some gyms
Carries has some interesting things to look at from vintage clothing to barware to retro furniture. I like the atmosphere of the store, packed with so many things to look at! Sometimes you find treasures but other times you just find dingy garage sale-quality items. Liek any antique store, items often seem dirty or tattered. But I wish they paid more attention to the items before putting them on the shelf, maybe just a quick spot cleaning. Keeping in midn that he clothing is vintage, some peices are more worn than I would ever sell in a store. But the linens, fabrics, tableware and toys are often a good bargain. It's always fun to look, even if I don't end up finding anything I can't live without.
PROS: Tons of fun things to look at
CONS: Items sometimes dingy
