A American Electrolysis Studio
I think Vijay, the technician here is great. The office is a fun looking space and she is really nice and makes you feel comfortable at every step of the process. It's affordable as she has a few package deal promotions running as well.
SPAce Salon
I am always on the lookout for an inexpensive but GOOD cut. My friend introduced me to this place an I think I have found my new salon. I got a really nice cut and blowdry for less than $50! This is inexpensive to me because I have pretty long, thick hair and most salons charge me an arm and a leg for a blowdry. It's pretty cute and calm in there too and it's worth the short trek from Manhattan.
Astor Place Hair Designers
but I go with my boyfriend pretty frequently and he has always come out looking pretty good. We've been going since college when he used to get fades, and he's got a more professional look now, but they still do it well. I like the atmosphere too - it's insane the amount of people in there and it's just a NYC institution.
Pretty & Pretty Nails
I got a decent manicure and a leg wax at Pretty and Pretty for a reasonable price. It was during a special so the wax was about $35 and I think the manicure was about $11. It's not the fanciest salon you'll ever be in, but certainly a good job at an affordable price.
Nellie M Boutique
I walk by this boutique everyday and wish for a bigger paycheck. This boutique has selected really beautiful pieces from designers like Nanette Lepore. The dresses and slinky tops are especially nice.
Coup De Coeur
I just found this place the other day and I think it's really nice to have an affordable boutique with really cool clothes so nearby to home. Right now they even have a 20% off everything sale. I really like the tank tops and skirts - the jewelry is also really unique. The Upper East Side doesn't have a bunch of cool clothing stores - but this is definitely one.
PROS: affordable, interesting and unique clothes
CONS:
Pearl River Mart
I really like Pearl River Mart to get inexpensive and lovely gifts for people. There are great tea sets and sushi plates and other beautiful ceramic dishes. There is a large tea selection and there are many knick knacks and cool Asian foods that make finding a unique gift really easy. The new location in Soho is really nice too.
Dyanna-Body & Nail Salon
I gave my friend a gift here for a facial and pedicure and while she had her services I got myself a pedicure as well. We both had the same impression - the ladies here weren't fawning over their clients, but they did excellent high quality work. Her facialist was very helpful and straightforward about what she needed to do with her skin and my friend was pleased with the results. I think the prices are pretty reasonable as well.
Emilys Shoe Outlet
I guess when I walked in here and saw the word outlet, I expected rock bottom prices, and the shoes here are still cheaper than they normally would be because they are probably a season or two old. But the selection is surprisingly good - there are definitely a lot of nice shoes here - not dirt cheap, but definitely cheaper than elsewhere.
Spa Belles
I have been to a few Bloomie's locations and always left with the same impression - they do a really good job on the pedicures but it's usually pretty crowded and it's always a quick service. You're not going to Bloomie's for a spa experience, you're going for a thorough, reasonably priced (it's not the cheapest out there) and quick service.
PROS: Fast, quality job
CONS: Crowded, can get pricey with add-on services.
