Quite simply, this is the largest arcade that I have ever visited. It is two floors, located in the Arizona Mills Mall. They have just about every game that you can think of from old-school Space Invaders to the latest and greates virtual reality games. They even have pinball games, my personal favorite. This is a great place to spend a hot Phoenix afternoon. You can buy food inside here, but it is also adjacent to the food court so there are lots of options there too. highly recommended. Also a good place to leave the kids while you go shopping in the mall.
CONS: games are pricey nowadays
This place is a nice change from the huge mega-store pet shops that are everywhere. It has that personal touch. They have lots of unusual items here, and lots of natural and homeopathic items for pets. They have a bakery where you can get special treats for your animals. Like a lot of shops in the area, it is a little pricey. It is definetly worth a visit to at least take a look at their products. More geared toward dogs than cats.
PROS: the bakery and lots of other unusual items
This place is a trip! It is an old style town set up to look like old west. It is kind of like an old west Disneyland, where all of the workers are basically in character to give you the feel that you are actually back in the old west. It is a fun place to bring the family, especially for young boys. They have shows, a petting zoo, shops, food, and you can also pan for gold. Fun and imaginative place. (Super hot in the summer!!!)
PROS: the employees do a great job being in character
This is a great gym that has everything you need in a gym. All of the latest machines, the good old standard machines, and knowledgeable and helpful staff. They have yoga classes here that I have really been enjoying. I was very nervous to try out the class but they were helpful and patient with me which I appreciated.
PROS: great staff
This place has a gigantic selection of constumes for people of all ages. Of couse the place is a little nuts and super busy around Halloween, but they are open year round. They also have a fun selection of gag and prank items that will delight any young boy. Parking can be a pain, as this is downtown Phoenix, but it is worth it.
PROS: huge selection
CONS: parking is a pain
As the name implies, this is a place for young kids. It has lots of fun ride and such, with my son especially loving the bumper cars. The cost of admission (at the time of this writing) is reasonable. This is located in the middle of a park, and you can also rent boats here, though I have never done it. It is a good place to bring the young kids, but I would leave the teenagers at home as they would likely be bored.
PROS: bumper cars, rent a boat, and more
CONS: a little run down
This is a beautiful place to visit whether you are a Phoenix native, or simply visiting. It has a great trail to walk where you can see lots of different plant life from Arizona and learn about it. They have butterly pavilion which is really interesting and fun. Kids will love the butterflies, but may be a bit bored with the rest of the place.
PROS: butterfly pavilion
This mini-amusement park is right outside the Metro Center Mall, visible from the 17 highway. There are lots of fun things to do here. I suppose the main reason that people come here is for their miniature golf course. But they also have a roller coaster, go carts, and a huge arcade filled with all styles of games from all time-periods. This is a fun place to go. It can be a bit dirty here and could probably use a makeover at some point soon, but it is a fun place to go to in Phoenix.
PROS: big arcade
CONS: a little dirty
This is a great store that buys and sells lots of media product. Books, CD's, DVD's, VHS tapes, video games, comic books and more. You can trade in for store credit, or get cash (you get more in store credit than you would in cash). They have a great selection and are constantly adding new product, so you are not looking at the same old items every time you visit. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It is a fun shop, and the personal touch is a nice break from the huge corporate-run book stores.
PROS: great selection, nice staff, personal touch
This is my preferred comic shop in the Phoenix. I think I have visited all of them, but this is the best. It is a large store in a bit of an out-of-the-way location, so parking is never a problem. It is right outside the Metro Center Mall. They have a huge selection of new and used comics, along with action figures, trading cards, graphic novels, shirts, and lots of other goodies. The place is always well staffed so getting help (if needed) or a recommendation is never a problem. Whether you are coming in to buy a $1000 back issue or just want to browse the new releases, they treat you well here. Highly recommended!
PROS: big store, lots of parking available
