Mount Lookout Swim Club
This is a great place if you can somehow get in. The waiting list is atroscious and the cost is unbelievable, even for a whole family. This is the only pool open to the public in Mt Lookout/Hyde Park area, so it's super popular. Located in a very secluded cul-de-sac, it's perfect for relaxing on a hot summer day.
Shoe Haus
This is an interesting shoe store, and whether you love it or not will totally depend on your style. The selection is somewhat good, it's driven by the small size of the store, which is located downtown in the Carew tower building. They carry awesome european (mostly German) selections. Pretty pricey but top quality. You can find things on sale for ~$60, regularly over $100.
Birkenstock
If you are fan of super comfortable shoes, you will love Birkenstocks and this store. They have the largest selection that I have seen anywhere (even DSW) of various styles, sizes etc. Next best place would be a catalog but then you can't try them on.
State Farm Insurance Companies
I have been with state farm for years, and have always been happy with how they handle claims, they registration process, customer service and even transition to a new agent. Most of the issues can be handled over the phone, and the response is very quick.
Third Federal Savings & Loan
Going through the process of getting a mortgage can be quite cumbersome - not here. Everything is very simple, and less paperwork is required than most places. The loan officer walks you through the process in no time, mails whatever can't be delivered at the meeting. Easy to get a hold of, they handle one-off requests very quickly.
Family Christian Book Store
I am not into christian literature, so the trip to this store was out of pure curiosity. I was pleasantly surprise to find several books of non-religious nature, which was refreshing. Cooking and personal development seemed to be the main two categories. I wish there was more...
Northland Volkswagen
This is a place I used to several types of service on my VW, I also bought my car there. The service is good, on several occasions they will make suggestions but will never force parts or services on you. Reasonable prices, easy to deal with personnel.
Fairfield-Lincoln-Mercury-Vlks
Absolute place ever to get your car repaired. You would think that a Volkswagen certified place would do a better job on a VW - not so! Not only I paid thousands of dollars for the first repair, that cause issues which brought me back to the shop. Apparently the engine got damaged the second time, thanks to the quality job they did in the first place. Now I am left with the option of paying thousands of dollars again to have something driveable. This is extortion and criminal behavior.
Michaels Stores
I've been shopping at Michael's for quite some time, normally for ready-to-go items. When I decided to get some custom frames done, there was lots to be disappointed about. My order was late, I was charged an arm and a leg, and they didn't do a good job. They asked me to leave my original prints and paintings there! After they measured them... still didn't do a very good job.
Bella Donna
Unlike the Hyde Park location this store focuses on the formal wear, on several occasions I saw Vera Wang dresses in here, and yes they did go on sale during the semi-annual event. Great choices of accessories and some business attire. Expect to pay designer prices.
