Liberty Science Ctr
I love this place. I've been here four times now, and I've enjoyed it just as much. The activities are always changing, so if you don't go for a while there will always be new events.
What I like about Liberty Science Center is that it's more of a hands-on, learn from experience type of science museum. This is an excellent place to get kids more interested in science.
The IMAX theater inside is also a blast, with the huge screen and the feeling that you're actually in the movie. Very cool.
Highly recommended.
Killington Ski Area And Summer Resort
Killiington is what I would call a "serious" mountain to ski at. There's a ton of trails, all ranked in difficulty from green to double/triple black for all skiers or snowboarders. Since it's so far out, it's also not as packed as many of the places here in New Jersey (or the Poconos).
This is a mountain that you can keep challenging yourself - I came here for the first time as nearly a complete beginner, and definitely left a more seasoned snowboarder. Definitely a lot of improvement on these trails.
Highly highly recommended place to ski or snowboard.
Old Bridge Township
The Old Bridge skating rink is the only one that I know of in the Old Bridge/East Brunswick area, and it's great. The only drawback is that it isn't completely enclosed - it's basically an outdoor rink with a large ceiling cover. Rentals are pretty cheap, and it's a blast once you get your skates out onto the ice rink. Take your family here for a couple of hours of good, clean, fun.
Definitely recommended.
Edison Professional Drvng Schl
I took my first (and only) lessons from Edison Driving School. Before that, my parents never let me drive for 1 second. I had a great instructor and he basically taught me from scratch how to drive - that's a huge feat that most people take for granted. Anyway, I passed my driving test without a single mistake which is impressive considering I started without even knowing how to use the turn signals.
I'm not sure if it's any different with any driving school, but these guys will pick you up from school if necessary.
Highly recommended.
Water Works
Water works is one of the best water parks that I've ever been to, hands down. There's a good number of water slides and tubes that are fun for all ages. In addition, there's a large lazy river that goes around the whole park where you can just kick back on one of the inflatable tubes and just cruise around the park.
If anything, it's probably a little smaller than the Great Adventure water park, but I think it's a lot more fun. AND it's located in Seaside Heights, one of the best beaches/boardwalks in NJ.
Amf Mid State Lanes
This bowling alley has been around longer than I have. While it used to be an outdated and old bowling alley, in the past few years it's been given a new look and is a great place to bowl. It's not really that cheap compared to Brunswick Zone on Wednesdays or Thursdays, but it's clean and isn't a hangout for the local punk kids.
Route 18 Indoor Market
The Route 18 flea market is a great place to just walk around, browse some of the specialty stores, and eat. There's lots of different stores here, and you'll definitely find something you're interested in. They have game stores, jewelry stores, weapons stores, antique stores, action figure stores, and pretty much everything else.
It's only open Fri-Sun, and the parking lot is usually packed with people so getting in and out is always a huge mess. But hey, it's the only flea market in the area (not counting Englishtown as being in the area)
South Brunswick Library
While the staff here are excellent and are willing to go the extra mile for the library patrons, the SBPL just doesn't seem to have many other services than books. The DVD collection is fairly small compared to many other libraries. They do have a good foreign language book selection and many (older) music cds. There is an internet training center for their computer classes and several other computers hooked up to the internet for the patrons. As far as I know there are no additional study rooms, other than the desks that have been placed around.
Size-wise, the library is pretty small but this is being remedied right now (it is currently undergoing renovations).
East Brunswick Library
This isn't your ordinary library. Besides books, East Brunswick Public Library offers VHS/DVD rentals, video game rentals (as in PS2, gamecube, xbox), music cd rentals, internet stations, study rooms, and a host of other services. I mean, how many libraries do you know that rent out PS2 games (they have quite a collection) for $1.50 a week?
Having visited this library ever since I can remember, I can truthfully say that the staff here is exceptional. They're always trying to help you find whatever you need. Definitely an A+ for customer service.
Another plus is that unlike many other smaller libraries, EBPL gets numerous copies of books - more than 40 in some cases. While this doesn't seem like much, the library of the town I currently reside in, South Brunswick, carries maybe 3 copies of new arrivals.
If you live in East Brunswick, then consider yourself lucky.
P C Warehouse
PC Warehouse and PC City are pretty much the only two good places to buy computer hardware in the East Brunswick, Edison, Piscataway/Plainfield area. While their selection isn't as good as PC City, the customer service is excellent. Prices are very reasonable and comparable to PC City down the road. I can't say anything for their computer repair department as I have never used them, (only hardware puchases) but I would expect it to be better than the Geeks at Best Buy.
I would recommend this store to anyone in the area - although I feel that you can get better deals online.
