Sylvan Beach Amusement Park
Another of my daughter's favorite. We have made this a yearly trip. They have several rides for the smaller kids. We haven't gone into the larger rides too much, so I can't comment on them. They have a huge carousel and tons of games. It feels like an old fashion amusement park. We usally go when we can pay one price and ride unlimited rides. The kids can earn tickets playing the games and then buy small toys w/ them. The beach is small enough to enjoy wiht out losing the kids. The bathrooms were even kept very clean, except for sand.
Program Information 24 Hours
T excellent place for strollers. They have wooden walkways and benches to sit on along the way. The have a fast food restaurant on the premises. The also have a nursery where you can see them feed the very tiny baby animals. They also show how they mix the food to make it just right for the little ones. I think this was my favorite part. The have both inside and outside exhibits, so even if it rains, there's something to see and do. At certain times of the day, they have elephant rides & herder dog shows. I love this zoo. It's perfect for a nice family venture with out spending a fortune, well unless you hit the gift shop.
Ross Park Zoo
I've been there twice this last summer. We took our daughter the first time and went w/ her preschool class the second time. Both times, we were disappointed. There is a GREAT deal of walking involved and very few animals. The walk is mostly uphill until the end. The kids enjoyed the carousel & play ground, when you first enter the park, the most. There were only a handful of animals that we actually got to see... I think they may have been butterflies in the tents, bees in the glass case and a leopard or something similiar. The children were not interested. They felt it was boring. Towards the top is a green house or butterfly house and some other birds, I think vultures (turkey buzzards). The long walk back is suppose to be wolves, but I've never seen them. It is a nice walk throught the trees though.
Plan First Computer Svc
I use this compnay exclusively. I have my dial up internet connection with them. They have moved to Groton Avenue as they have gotten much bigger and outgrew their old office. If I have any trouble, I can call them and they will walk me through a handful of problem solvers and not charge me. If it's not something that can be fixed over the phone, I can take my hard drive into them. They don't open until 9 am, but someone is usally there by 8:30 am. I am attached to my computer and without, I feel as though I've lost a limb. These guys are honest about when they can get it fixed. They do their best to get it done in one day, but if they can't, they'll tell you. Also, their prices are competitive. I believe that thye only charge for the actual time they are physically fixing the computer. I had a virus that took all day to clean up, but I was only charged for a half hour. I recommend this company to everyone. They are starting to expand into a high speed cable type service. I'm in the country and won't be able to use it though.
Hartleys Auto SVC
My husband does most of his own mechanic work, but there are some things that he can't do for himself. We took our Blazer in for a front end alignment. He had already put in the ball joints (brand new) and something else that needed to be replaced before an alignment could be done. We dropped off the truck at night and we were told to pick it back up the following evening. When we got there the next night, they had not done the work. We were told that we needed new parts.... ALL of which my husbnad had already put in! We have no idea why, they KNOW that he does his own work & they were told the new parts had already been put in... We took the Blazer elsewhere. POOR customer service, laziness and NO knowledge. It's scary to think these people are working on cars.
Petrella Bros Auto Body
I've seen the work these guys do and it's amazing. The prices are reasonable. They are open Monday through Friday. The are also rental vehicles available. They are good at matching paint jobs and getting the right parts. If it's not fixed right, they will do it again, with a smile on their face. Though, they don't often do it wrong. The guys in the garage are friendly and know their stuff. They do a lot of business, so sometimes there is a wait, but it's worth it.
Advance Auto Parts
There are two employees and have MANY years experience between them. There is a two bay garage for both repair and rebuilding transmissions. I've seen them work on motor homes & boats. They are open early in the morning too. The cleanliness isn't great, but it is a garage. If it's a quick fix, have a seat and a cup of coffee. You can also walk across the street and grab a bite to eat. If it's a big fix, there is a hotel on the other side of the road.
NAPA Auto Parts - Volo's Auto Supply Inc
We usually only deal with the store on Main Street. The guys all now us be name and face. The can get almost any part, as long as it's not dealer item only. They have also expanded into a small machine shop. The can clean your car heads and it's usally done in just a couple of days. They also treat women w/ repsect unlike some garages/ parts stores.
Tallmadge Tire Service
We've only bought tires from Tallmadge, so I can't speak for the garage section. They didn't have the tires we were looking for, but they ordered them and they were here in just a couple of days. They can be mounted in record time too! There is a seperate building for larger truck tires and you can order normal sized tires too. If you'd like new rims, they can do that too.
Main St Auto Repair
They are very friendly and helpful. The garage is big enough for a couple of cars and the price is right. My husband gets his tanks for welding from this business. If you have any questions, they can usually answer them or find out for you. They are located on S Main and very easy to get to.
