Bossa Nova

Los Angeles, CA Ethnic Food Stores - Los Angeles, CA Italian Restaurants 12/08/05: 'Oh man, where to begin with this place...'

If it's 2:30 in the morning, there is no better option than Bossa Nova. That said, if it's 2 in the afternoon, there are few better options than Bossa Nova.
Admittedly, I haven't gone for many of the traditional Brazilian items on the menu - but the regular fare I've had (chicken brochettes, pasta arrabiatta, any of the pizzas) is ALL phenomenal. The fact that they are open 'til 4 AM every night is also a huge draw. Can be pricy on certain items, but it's worth it.

PROS: Great food, open late, delivery
CONS: A smidgen pricier than comparable places

Philly Steak Depot

Los Angeles, CA Steakhouses 12/08/05: 'The ONLY place to get a badass cheesesteak'

This place does it up right - giant cheesesteaks, many different combos, and relatively inexpensive. It's the only place in LA where I'll get a cheesesteak. I wouldn't recommend straying too far on the menu - my wife got an italian sub that wasn't great - but then again, I got a burger that was phenomenal.
I also recommend the cheesesticks, they do them a little differently, and you get 4 massive ones for 2.75.
Just wish it was open a little later (they'd make a KILLING on the weekends!)

PROS: Great cheesesteak, burgers, prices
CONS: Not open late

Hoagies and Wings

I have no idea why people keep saying "finally! a real wing stand in LA!" The wings here are no better here than they are anywhere else in this city, which isn't a good thing. Tiny, with 2 bites of grey meat on each one. Sure, they're flavorful, but who cares? It's like they were ripped off a pigeon.
The service here is great, but that's really it. The hoagies - composed mostly of stale bread.
This place won best of citysearch, and as someone who grew up on the east coast eating subs and wings, and if you want a "decent" sub go to big mama's and papa's (for regular subs) or philly steak depot (for steak and cheese).
If you want good wings, you're on your own.

PROS: Service
CONS: Overrated - tiny wings; stale, bready subs.
