The salespeople are very friendly and willing to show you anything with no pressure. They have a good selection of Nomination jewelry. They also carry silver and crystal serving pieces like bowls and trays that make nice gifts. I got my parents a set of silver wine coasters and had their initials engraved on it. Because they do their own work, it only took a week. They have several big sales a year and the store can get extremely crowded so that you have trouble getting somebody to wait on you and even seeing what's in the display cases.
PROS: good selection; friendly salespeople; lots of parking
CONS: the mall they're in is kind of dumpy
I feel very intimidated at this store beginning with the guard at the door and ending with the snooty salespeople. You don't feel like you can just browse the cases to look much less ask the cost of something. I guess they think if you have to ask, you shouldn't be there. They only carry extremely expensive pieces anyway. I would never go there for an engagement ring if you are a young, first-time buyer, for example.
CONS: snooty, intimidating atmosphere
The folks at Sidney Krandall always make you feel comfortable, not intimidated. It doesn't matter how much you want to spend, they have the selection and give small spenders as much attention as large spenders. If my teenage daughter happens to be with me when I go, the staff will let her try on engagement rings for fun. My husband got a Rolex watch and when it started having problems shortly after the 1-yr warranty expired, they had it repaired at no cost.
PROS: comfortable atmosphere; excellent selection
The store recently moved to a larger location with better parking. The selection of books is astounding and the shelves are well-organized. The proprieter always remembers your name. You can set up an account to "bank" money books that you sell. They carry a small number of new paperbacks for which you can get a better trade-in price if you bring it back within a certain timeframe. For frequent customers, the owner will let you pre-order new paperbacks at a slight discount from the catalogs she gets from publishers
PROS: excellent selection; good parking; friendly salespeople
I love this store because even though it's small, it has everything you need at a hardware store unless you're a builder. I get paint, keys, lighting, kitchen accessories, garden, Christmas and plumbing items on a regular basis. It's never a zoo like a big box store and it's easy to find what you're looking for. Prices are comparable to big stores, too.
The guy in the paint department was very patient with me when I wanted to get pint sizes of about a dozen different colors that I was experimenting with for my bedroom. They don't stock wallpaper but they have wallpaper supplies. I got some gel wallpaper stripper that I thought was fairly pricey and it didn't work well at all. There was no problem at the customer service desk when I returned the bottle for a refund.
PROS: excellent selection; easy to navigate; good parking
JR's recently lost some of their best stylists but is still a good place to go for typical salon treatments. In addition to hair and nails, they also do massages. They have a special kid's room with chairs shaped liked cars that the kids can sit in. The place is very popular with the high school crowd and the stylists are good a doing the often-requested "up-dos" that the girls like. I've never had any problems getting an appointment on short notice but I've been in the waiting area when they've had to turn away walk-ins.
PROS: good place for kids cuts
The Flower Barn staff always has the prettiest corsages and is the place to go for Homecoming, Sadie's, etc. They have unique accents like ribbons and beads that can be added for a special touch and can match any color dress. Don't let the outside of the building fool you, their flowers are excellent
PROS: unique ideas for corsages
CONS: small lot, unappealing building
Good selection in equipment, especially in sizes for younger kids. My son likes the kind of molded shin guard that you mold yourself and the staff gave him some good recommendations on what kind to buy for his leg size. The staff is knowledgeable and can make suggestions for shoes, shin guards, etc. In addition to the uniforms, they have a good selection of warm-ups and I've gotten several Nike sets for my husband. If you see something you want but they don't have it in stock, they'll be glad to call one of their other locations and they can have it there the next day.
PROS: good selection; plenty of parking
George's has a good selection if you go early in the season before the soccer league play begins. Their selection is much better than big box stores and the staff is extremely knowledgeable about the equipment. You can also find good buys on their sales rack. You can usually find a good variety of soccer shoes in stock after the season starts because they replenish their supply weekly or they can bring in shoes from their other locations.
PROS: good selection, especially in shoes
Telly's carries the widest selection of native plants and wildflowers in the county. They have plants that I've never seen anywhere else and their stock is well cared for. I love the selection but I hate to shop there because the parking lot is tiny, difficult to drive around in and fills up fast on busy days. They don't have very many checkout counters, either. I only go if I can get there before 10:00 a.m.
PROS: excellent selection; plants are well cared for
CONS: parking lot is ridiculously small; go very early during peak season
