If your child needs more one on one with a teacher, please consider Saint Martins Episcopal School in Metairie. It offers the attention that doesn't seem to be found anymore in schools. The children end up knowing each other alot better, also. So, it is good for all!

Radford High School

Honolulu, HI Elementary and Secondary Schools 12/27/05: 'Great school for the military kids to blend in'

Located close to Pearl Harbor and Hickam AFB, Radford High School has had many 'army brats' (not just army, but Air Force, Marines, Naval brats as well) walking the halls of their school. It probably was one of the friendliest schools that I have ever attended! They taught me the meaning of the Aloha Spirit!

So much to choose from, where to start? This Best Buy was a welcome addition to the Metairie area, since we were quite limited to Circuit City as the electronic ruling giant. One can shop for not only electronics, but appliances, big and small. You can shop online and pickup right at the store but beware of the lines. It can be a mess if you get caught up waiting to pick your order up. All just to save time. Oh well. I like how they how they organize their lines during the busy periods and keep things moving.

And yes, parking is a bear. For those unaware, you can park on the roof as a last resort. I find parking on the outer edges of the lot always gets me a spot!

New Orleans, LA Toys 12/27/05: 'Another Toy Wonderland for Uptown!'

Magic Box is a wonderland for parents and children alike! They have such hard to find toys which keep everyone happy! I love their mailing lists that tell us when they have scheduled activities featuring the various toys.

Don't miss shopping here, especially if you are in need of a unique shower or birthday gift!

Metairie, LA Bike Shops - Metairie, LA Exercise Equipment - Metairie, LA Toys 12/27/05: 'Great local toy store!'

My kids love coming here. So many hands on toys for them to try out while we do our shopping. Le Jouet offers lay aways, which is fab for the holidays, and free gift wrapping! Locally owned, this store is a fave for our family. Yes, prices seem a bit higher than Target, but the selection they have here is unbeatable, and talk about hard to find items! Come here first!

I had a choice in locations for my physical therapy and JUMPED at the chance to go to Ochsner Clinic Foundation Elmwood location. Not only was the location minutes from my house, but the staff is great. They have good hours and access to the entire facility, if necessary for your therapy. At the end of my PT, I was offered a special deal to sign up for 3 months. Great deal!

PROS: You couldn't ask for more features for a physical therapist!
CONS:

La Bella's Deli

Kenner, LA Butchers 12/27/05: 'Great butcher shop, too!'

A friend of mine served us steaks from LaBella's one night and ever since, I have been hooked! We go abt every 6-8 weeks and have the butcher trim up a tenderloin for our freezer. The staff does an excellant job, not only trimming the beef so professionally but wraps each one individually for freezing. They also ask you how thick you want your meats cut.

They also cater parties and serve daily lunches here. Pop in for some good eats! You can also pick up some nice wines to complement your meal, from their bar.

Katrina has temporarily closed them, but they do have plans on reopening on Jefferson Highway in 2006.

PROS: It's all GOOD!
CONS: That Katrina has taken LaBella's away from us, temporarily!

Elmwood Gymnastics Academy

New Orleans, LA Gymnastics 12/27/05: 'WORLD CLASS FACILITY'

When they first opened, it was amazing! This area had never seen such a facility with EVERYTHING for a family. The hours are great, from 5 AM to 10 PM, so no excuses as to why you can't get a workout in. This is one of the largest cardiovascular exercise facilities in the region. Indoor and outdoor pools available, plus a facility for the kids, called KidSports. This is the perfect activity for the entire family!

Double M Feed Garden & Pet

New Orleans, LA Garden Centers & Nurseries - New Orleans, LA Pet Supplies & Accessories 12/27/05: 'Great customer service!'

They are all so helpful here. If you are looking for some unusual, beautiful plants, pop in to Double M Feed to see what they have. The kids will love a trip inside to pet the puppies, bunnies and whatever soft n fuzzy animals that are for sale! Plant prices are higher than Home Depot but we prefer to support the local businesses.

We even were notified when they got their Christmas trees and greens in, so we could come in and get an early selection. How nice is that?
