It was a pleasurable dining experience. The dining room is beautiful. We weren't happy with our drinks, a weak Absolut Martini ($12) and a fruit punchy Pinot Noir ($8)
However our appetizer (Brie puff pastry with smoked salmon, dill and capers) and our entrees were divine and arrived quickly even though there was a party of 150 in the restaurant. The server forgot a few things, but other than that he was efficient and pleasant. Everything on the menu is pricy and not for a casual night's dinner. We think $8 for a draft beer is insane. Most entrees from $16-$25 But we will return for sure for a special occasion for the ambiance and delicious menu again. Although the restaurants name means Theater in spanish, don't let it fool you, there's no stage act, or theatre in here.
This really is the most precious place. Its an old historic home in Seminole Heights, turned into a bar and restaurant. The food has always been good, I love the stuffed puffed pastry! I live so close to this place I've been here 100 times. Unfortunetly, we stoppd going here for food because you just can't get good service. No refills or visits. They have a new waitstaff every week. Still worth it to check out the bar tho.

So I'm approaching my 1 year anny at my home in South Seminole Heights, and I never EVER thought I'd be dreaming back to my days in Northdale... where the restaurants, chains and concrete slabs were so abundant. Back then, we couldn't wait leave the little boxes made of ticky tacky and move the hell out of suburbia. But yet, we never went hungry. Hey, we even had a neighborhood Pub on the corner...and a few more down the road to chose from.
Same debate every night I come home. Should we have dinner? No we aren't poor and starving, just meaning: are we formally cooking food, randomly eating scraps..or going out? We actually cook at home a lot, but if there aren't any groceries to be seen, my boyfriend and I run through the (short list) of dining options etched into our brains here in Seminole Heights.
Ok so we have: Front Porch, Stephano's, 3 Coins, Taco Bus, ABC, Cappy's...no, we don't want those. We eat too much pizza, 3 coins is a penny too far, taco bus only once a week please..., Front Porch...we gave up you.
Uh no running out options...ahhh Niko's. Like a electric blanket on cold night, that big silver dining car warms my belly. Its a bit dirty, so try not to look at the windows or floors, but Niko's feeds me more breakfasts, lunches and dinners than anyone else, so I think I'll call her mommy. i love you mommy.
I love this place, from the brick walls, to the beautiful people, and not to mention the melt-in your mouth delicious food!! Everything you order you will love! What you won't get is fast or superior service, but you won't realllly care when your dinner comes...
3 Coins is a fabulous diner in the heart of Sulphur Springs/Seminole Heights. It has a very large menu consisting of diner-type food: breakfast lunch and dinner... all made to order and always hot and fresh. The staff is super friendly. The new owner has made many improvements to the place, including the fact that it now open 24 HOURS!!! yay! (one of the only places on this side of Tampa) Visit 3 Coins today and you won't be disappointed.
The Improv gets some big names in the comedy circuit. The Improv Ybor theatre has a beautiful setup since it it staged in a historic opera house, complete with balconies and rustic columns.
For such a large company though, they have some issues. The wait staff could be a bit friendlier... and BEWARE, they always add gratuity to your bill! Eat dinner before you go to the show --the menu is mainly greasy bar food and is way overpriced.
UPDATE: 05/08 I have been to the Improv many times (mainly because I get so many free tickets from signing up for their mailing list the first time i was there) I must say they have improved greatly in their service! I will keep going as long as I keep getting tix from them. And its nice that they don't have a drink minimum.
PROS: Big Names, No Drink Minimum
CONS: Expensive Food, Adds Gratuity to Bill Always
The Rare Olive is a great place to go if you want to have fun but hate the sticky crowds of Ybor. The Olive always has patrons but never seems that packed. It is a good sized place with friendly bartenders and good music. They have a wonderful Reggae night on Wednesdays with the band ?Positivity? who really lives up to their name. They are the nicest guys and will take requests and talk to you after the show.
PROS: Reggae night, never packed
The Orpheum is such an interesting place it?s hard to put it into words. With always a diverse crowd, its definitely one of the best places in town for local music and local entertainment. Many nights you will find a line out the door for the popular shows. The cover is reasonable as well as the drink prices. This place is a lot larger than it looks outside and even if its packed, its not that hard to move around. The bar is a good size and they have 2-3 bartenders working so you don?t have to wait long for your drink.
PROS: Roomy, variety of shows
CONS: bathrooms are gross!
Located across from New World Brewery and next to the Orpheum, Fuma Bella is a slice of heaven in Ybor. Fuma sells high quality liquors, beers and mixed drinks in a hip artsy setting. The bar is very intimate, it seats only 5 people or so and there are 5 tables behind that. It?s the perfect place to stop in between bar hopping or for a night cap after a great meal. The bartender is always friendly and not over talkative. It?s a wonderful environment and is always full of interesting people. I recommend that you check it out.
PROS: Great Atmosphere, people and drinks
What a nice little place this cigarette store is, tucked away in a small strip center on Florida Avenue. The owner is the nicest person and is so easy to talk to. If you have any questions about the accessories they sell, she will give you the most detailed, thorough description and history about the product. You will find that their prices cannot be beat, and the quality of goods is great too.
PROS: Great Owner and selection
