My son is midway through his second year at ABC, and I could not be happier! At first I had some hesitation because of the school's combined 3 & 4 year old program. But it has proved to work out well. The younger kids are guided and challenged to excel by having the older kids in the same classroom. The older kids learn to be leaders, and to mentor and help the younger kids. The teachers have far more patience with a class full of kids than I sometimes have with just two at a time! They are loving, kind and warm to the children, and very friendly and open to the parents. I will truly miss ABC Preschool once both of my kids have graduated and moved on!
We have been to Atty. Zacharia for a few routine legal matters, and always found him to be professional, courteous, and knowledgable. He puts you at ease, and seems like a "regular guy" - not a typical arrogant stuffed shirt. Yet, he is clearly very experienced in his primary areas of expertise (wills, trusts and estates, among other things). His charges were always more than reasonable - even less than we expected to pay. And we certainly appreciate having such a valuable and professional legal resource available locally, without having to travel to downtown Pittsburgh for the simplest legal matter.
Although I really like Dr. DiToppa and feel very confident in his medical abilities, I would be more impressed if it was not so difficult to get in to see him. If you are not in immediate need of medical care, expect to wait 2+ months to get an appointment. If you are sick, often you will only talk to a nurse on the phone and she will phone in a prescription. Although that has some benefit, there are times when I wonder if perhaps I should actually be SEEN before being DIAGNOSED. I believe if I pushed the issue, they would get me in to see the doctor; however, clearly it would seen as a huge burden. Once at the office, appointments will typically run anywhere from 20 - 90 minutes behind schedule.
I have taken both of my boys to Hairways for cuts, a 4 year old and a (difficult!) 2 year old. Not only did they gladly take them for a walk-in cut, but they did a great job and warmly put the kids at ease! I was so pleased that I went back a short time later for my own cut, and was just as happy. The staff is very friendly and puts you right at ease. Sometimes it seems to be like pulling teeth to make idle chit-chat with a new hairdresser, but I felt completely confortable here. The prices are as good as any I've found, and well worth the value.
Alexander's is more expensive than some of the other gyms in the area, but has enough value-added to justify the relatively higher cost. The group fitness schedule has a lot of variety, and you can always find a class to take, if you prefer that to an independent workout. With 3+ complete circuits of weight machines and plenty of cardio equipment, even at peak times you will still be able to get in the workout that you want. The childcare room is top-rate, and my kids love it! It makes it so much easier to work out, knowing that my kids are having a good time and well taken care of. All of the staff are exceptionally pleasant. There could be more attention paid to maintenance - one shower stall has been out of order for several months. Still, all in all, a good choice for a health club.
PROS: friendly employees, high-quality equipment
CONS: cost, attention to maintenance
