Horowitz Isadore Md
My fiance has known Dr. Horowitz for well over 20 years. He is their family doctor and a great man. He's an internist with a computer-like memory. He is able to use his wealth of knowledge to make the correct diagnosis. Other doctors have been known to consult him when they cannot come up with a diagnosis for their own patience. He has come through many times for my fiance's ailments and has been so helpful since he has gone through gastric bypass. He even recommended him to Dr. Gadaleta who performed the surgery. He's very pleasant and easy to talk to.
He was a lifeline for my fiance on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and helped him to get the answer correct!
You'll never find a better doctor.
Note: He does not accept insurance - but his services are worth all the money in the world
Leitman Michael I Md
Dr. Gadaleta is a great gastric surgeon. He performed gastric bypass on my fiance, and it has totally changed his life. When I first met Dr. Gadaleta, I thought he was very cold and non-receptive. However, I soon understoof why he was like that. He is very direct and honest. He tells you what to expect so there are no surprises. When my fiance was out of surgery, he let me and his family know how things went and how difficult the procedure was. I appreciated that, because some doctors will sugar-coat the issue.
Now my fiance is almost 200lbs lighter a year after surgery. Dr. Gadaleta is very warm and friendly at each visit, and he's so proud of my fiance's progress. I learned that there are many people who do not follow instructions after surgery which I see now would account for the doctor's initial approach. But when you stick to things, he definitely is more expressive.
Andys St. Marks
Andy's is not my cup of tea. They have some decent vintage clothes and new ones, but the prices are high. I haven't had the urge to buy anything the couple of times I've been there. You're better off going to a Goodwill Thrift Shop or a Salvation Army Store. They have a lot more to offer.
What Comes Around Goes Around
I agree with the first 2 reviewers. I've come across some very cool clothes for my friends, while just killing some time in the city. I sadly haven't been able to find anything that really sparked my tastes, but I've been impressed with what I was able to help my friends find - a couple of cute skirts and shoes! I sometimes wish I could just find something "vintage" that fit me here, then I would give it 5 stars (tee hee).
A place like this, you can definitely find some great deals for classic looks
Bronx Travel
I usually book travel for my family online. However, there are times when I can't get the trip itinerary set as I want, and that's when I use a travel agent, such as Bronx Travel. Bronx Travel is a great local travel agency that has helped me when booking a trip to Europe that needed to have a flexible itinerary separate from a tour. They were able to help me book hotels in Paris, Rome and Venice without a problem and it was definitely at a reasonable price. The agent was very understanding and helpful, and I definitely appreciated their time. I recommend them
Elmwood Park Public Library
The Elmwood Park Library is small, but is a great place for kids. They have a nice collection of children's books available, and have nice events during the school year. It's also a good place for children in grades K through 12 to find materials for school projects. For adults, the stacks are so-so, but I prefer going to Teaneck or Englewood libraries for books and films.
Our Lady Of Mercy Med Ctr
Our Lady of Mercy, formerly Misercordia (not sure of spelling), is a pretty good hospital. It's relatively small, but those who are treated are given adequate care. However, it can be quite busy and sometimes it seems as if there aren't enough nurses to response to patient's request. However, the staff is good and they know what they're doing. Over the years, they have taken care of my grandmother and my aunt who never expressed any complaints.
La-Renaissance French Pastry
La Renaissance is definitely a great find for baked goods in Westchester. Located in Larchmont, it is a bit out of the way for me, but it is worth it. I was introduced to them by a friend who brought in a batch of fresh croissants to work. So good and buttery.
The prices are comparable to that of establishments local to my neighbor, but La Renaissance's croissants surpass those of the local Bronx bakers.
I highly recommend them
Maestro's Caterers
Maestro's is a popular catering hall in the Bronx. I've been there a few times for events, and had often had a good time. The staff has been pleasant and helpful. The food though is just OK in my book. The decor does seem a bit over the top and cookie-cutter-esque. I persoanlly wouldn't host a party here, but I never had a bad experience when attending one.
Jae Cleaners
This small dry cleaner along Burke Avenue is one that I don't use often. However, when in a pinch, I've had to use them, since they are just a short walk away. They are a little more than my regular dry cleaner, but they are fast. There's never been any problem with their service. I would recommend them
