This local bakery produces a variety of breads and even a few baked goods. The breads range from regular white to whole wheat to flavored breads. My personal favorite is the sunny, honey oat. The bread is great, baked fresh daily and reasonably priced (about $3.40 for a loaf). The staff is friendly and helpful. The store is conveniently located in Cumberland Square but the breads can also be purchased at local grocery stores if Cumberland Square is not convenient for you.
I recently rejoined Ultimate Fitness for my second year of membership. They have a wide choice of workout equipment including, treadmills, eliptical machines, Nautilus, free weights and a circuit room. One of my favorite aspects of the club is that even when the parklng lot is jammed full the facilty is large enough that it rarely feels crowded. The membership is less expensive that many of the other area clubs and the is no pressure to be well dressed and perfect looking while you work out like there is at other local clubs.
PROS: Nice, non-threatening workout environment
CONS: Could be a little cleaner.
Wallace's Garden Center in Bettendorf, Iowa is one of the largest garden centers in the area. They have a tremendous selection of gardening materials. Everything from plants to garden statues to gift items. With its own greenhouse and many locally grown plants it is always nice to walk through the greenhouse and get a blast of spring anytime of the year. The staff is knowledgeable but sometimes hard to find. The only negative is the prices. While they run coupons in the newspaper regularly their prices are still quite high compared to other local retailers.
PROS: Great quality plants
CONS: High prices
This is a nice, friendly, neighborhood dry clean drop off center. The cleaning is done off site and there are no laundry facilities. So, you just drop your clothes off one day and pick them up the next. With the price of dry cleaning I don't do a lot of it but I do take my husband shirts there to be laundered. They run about $2.00 each and always come back looking great and neatly pressed. Sure beats standing behind a ironing boeard all evening.
PROS: Cheerful staff, quick in and out
Isabel Bloom used to be the gift of choice when you wanted to give a product but made in the Quad City area. However, they have recently announced that they will be moving production of their garden statues to China. The dismay from the entire Quad Cities had been astonishing. While Isabel Bloom is looking to establish a more national market, they have lost the local market that had supported them so whole-heartedly. While the statues themselves range from adorable to ugly the lure had always been the Quad Cities connection. It will be very interesting to see how the business develops from here. I personally don't need a garden statue made in China.
CONS: Made in China
This family owned jewelry store does a wonderful job of catering to its clients. Specializing in custom design and in-house repair service, Howard Jewelers offer exquisite jewelry at fair prices. I have purchased our wedding rings there as well as many watches for my husband. They do a great job with repairs and will even replace batteries or pins in an inexpensive watch not purchased from them. I like knowing the people who work there and trusting them to take care of me and my jewelry needs.
Located in the Village of East Davenport, The Added Touch carries a wide variety of gift items and greeting cards. Gift items include Dept. 56, Willowtree Angels, Bean Pod & Tyler candles and a lot more. The staff is cheerful, the prices are reasonable and the greeting cards are the funniest in the Quad Cities. The Added Touch is my favorite store to shop when I need a gift but don't know what I'm looking for. I can always find something adorable there.
Marshall Salon Services sells to licensed beauty professionals only. They carry Redken, Rusk, Bain de Terre, Pureology, OPI, Backscratchers and more.Their staff is well informed and eager to help. They can provide you with specific product advice as well as general business advice. Their hours are more convenient that many area beauty supply stores staying open each night until 6:00 p.m.
PROS: Friendly, helpful staff
With 2 cats and 5 dogs I shop the area pet stores frequently. PetsMart is definately my favorite. WIth their PetPerks program they offer great deals on the items I use all of the time, like dog & cat food, kitty litter and treats. By stocking up when things are on sale I'm able to save a bundle on my pet budget. Their staff is helpful and courteous and their selection of products is outstanding. Their prices always beat Petco, which sells virtually the same products.
PROS: Great sale prices, great selection, helpful staff.
Having 2 dogs and 5 cats I shop the local pet stores quite frequently. Petco has virtually the same inventory as PetsMart but their prices are always much higher. Their staff is not as friendly and their deals and coupons are not as good as PetsMart. With both stores so close together I'm amazed Petco is still in business.
CONS: High Prices
