Both my sons, 6 and 9 yrs old, have taken karate classes here for 2 years. The teachers are great with kids (there are adult classes, too, as well as mixed, so the whole family can go together). The kids not only gain coordination, strength, and discipline, but they are also taught how to behave respectfully and how to count and say colors in Japanese.
Great for sidewalk dining on a sunny day, a date night, or a family dinner. One of my kids loves the grape leaves, another loves the shawarma with hummus - and they are not adventurous eaters. There is an incredible dish with chicken in a creamy sauce with almonds over rice pilaf - I can't remember the name, but you'll want to lick the plate... You'll need a reservation for dinner on a weekend.
PROS: excellent food
CONS: can be hard to get a table on a weekend night
We'd love to try other Chinese restaurants, but we keep coming back to this one. Our favorite dishes include salt and pepper pork spareribs, tangerine beef, honey pecan prawns, fish with hot sauce, potstickers, Chinese chicken salad, hot and sour soup... This is making me hungry! Very kid-friendly.
PROS: lots of great choices
CONS: many of the best are fried
This is my mom's favorite restaurant - a must-do when she is visiting from out of town. Highlights include the lamb with peas, juicy and tender kabobs, aushak (leek ravioli), and pumpkin (really butternut squash - sweet and savory). White tablecloths, but fine to bring well-behaved kids - they even eat the salad! Also good for take-out. Big portions - order several dishes and share.
Yavar cuts and colors my hair and cuts my husband's and sons' hair. He gave my two boys their first haircuts, and now they are 9 and 6. He is kind and patient with them. For years, I resisted his suggestions to cut my hair shorter and color it, but now that I have gone with it, I get tons of compliments. He keeps us all looking great, and over the years, he has become a friend.
PROS: does a great job, low-key environment, friendly
CONS: if too many people find out, I won't be able to get an appointment!
Dr. Frank is the best dentist I've had as an adult. She is gentle but very thorough, very knowledgeable, and her office environment is calm and quiet. She also runs totally on time - I never have time to read more than a couple pages of a magazine!
PROS: gentle, does excellent work
My son attended SPP for 3 years, and I was on the Board for 2 years. It is a great place for kids, parents, and families. Parents are not only involved in their kids' preschool experience, but they also learn to become better parents through parent education and they have the opportunity to make lifelong friends.
PROS: developmental, play-based, parent education, dedicated director
CONS: significant time commitment
