El Matador Restaurant

Denton, TX Mexican Restaurants 03/21/06: 'Good family restaurant'

You might never guess that a restaurant in a strip mall was so good unless someone recommended it to you. If you visit El Matador, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the nice atmosphere, great menu, and tasty food. A good place to have a business lunch or to take the family for dinner. The place is big enough that families with little kids can be seated where they won't have to worry about bothering other diners, yet not a chain restaurant. Affordable and authentic Mexican food.

Banter

Denton, TX Restaurants 03/21/06: 'If you have to go to Banter, don't get a sandwich'

I've been to Banter three times, only because I was meeting with other people who wanted to go someplace downtown that served food and coffee. Each time I went I ordered food. The first time, I figured that they were just getting started (after taking the place over from Brickhaus), so I excused the fact that they were serving me two pieces of sandwich bread that tasted like they had been frozen and thawed, with only a tiny bit of meat between them, and charging way too much. The second and third times I don't know what I was thinking except that I was hungry. They can't even make a BLT. Maybe things get better at night. Avoid the place during the day--most people do.

Chinatown Cafe

This restaurant is exactly what you'd expect from a good Chinese place. Great service. Huge portions. Nice dining room. Highly recommended for take-out or delivery if you're on the north side of town.

Frilly's Seafood Bayou Kitchen

Denton, TX Seafood Restaurants 03/21/06: 'Approximately Cajun'

This place looks Cajun, but the food has a characteristically Texan blandness. Doesn't taste right. Okay prices, but I've had better Louisiana food in Ireland.
