For a chef, any cooking store is better than no cooking store, but Williams Sonoma has been resting on its laurels as a known luxury brand for a long time now. This store's staff is lackluster and obviously does not share the passion for cooking that characterizes the store's target audience.
This is a nice shop for chefs and foodies, and this store is fun to browse in while you're strolling on Santana Row, which is a gentrified development in San Jose. Kitchen gadgets and cookware and tableware are all featured here, as are cookbook and other culinary things. Some gourmet items too like exotic sea salts etc.
A good balance of quality to price, Andronico's has upscale foods like Draegers without the hoity toity, and reasonable down to earth prices like Safeway without the drek.
This used to be Woolworth garden store, and is a good place to buy any kind of plant, herb, flower, tree, shrub for your garden. Nice selection of annuals for springtime and also perennials and bulbs. Helpful people, though sometimes not enough of them.
The realty busines is all about individual people, and the service you get from Citi will range dramatically depending on the individual agent you interact with. But for the most part, I have found them to be pretty unprofessional, unprepared and just expecting the owner to do all the work. Their standard line is that their service is' free' to owners because tenants pay their fee, like owners are too stupid to realize that whatever tenants pay to them is more rent that they could afford to pay owners, duh.
This is a hangout for skateboarders, where they can replenish their gear, tune up their boards and generally talk boards with fellow boarders. It's a good place near the Park to rent roller blades if you want a quick loop outside. Prices reasonable.
EMS is the best place in the city for outdoorsy gear. Tents, sleeping bags, hiking boots, any kind of camping gear, etc. Their clothes are very well made and with comfy, wicking fabrics. Freeze-dried foods are a good buy.
I've never bought a bike here, but have brought several of my own bikes in for tune-up and repair and they do a great job every time. They turn around the bike pretty quickly and also take the time to explain what they think needs to be done and what they did and why.
They have a good selection of mountain bikes and hybrid bikes. The prices are not great bargains, but the staff is friendly and helpful and patient in explaining the different features.
If you are a wine connoisseur, I suspect that you would appreciate their selection of fine wines. If you are not a wine connoisseur but just enjoy a nice sip, this is especially the place for you. The people are so friendly and knowledgeable without being uppity like so many wine place are. Don't ever be oenologically intimidated again! Oh, and their wine tasting events are superb....
