Roots Restaurant
I love coming here for after work happy hours. The service is friendly and warm, and the drinks are great. I particularly like this place because you can bring a large group of people here and have a nice conversations since it's not loud.
The drinks are expensive but for every drink on their happy hour menu (or any drink equivalent to at least $10), you get a free appetizer. And the appetizers are great. I've had the french fries, the smoked trout salad, pan seared artichoke hearts, and more. It was all good.
The other plus is that this place is environmentally friend. Roots is located inside the Orchard Hotel.
Pro-Smogs
I had my car smog checked here over the weekend. Received a coupon in the mail and decided to give it a go since it was conveniently located. The coupon offered the service for $50 plus $8 for the certificate. I was charged $10 more because my car is older. Arrived at 9:35 AM or so and dropped my car off, letting them know I would pick it up by noon. The car was ready to go when I arrived.
Timely service. The staff person does not speak English fluently.
Orr Hot Springs Resort
Went here for the first time in February, and it was amazing. This hot spring is deep in the valley in Ukiah, and it's just gorgeous. All located in a natural wooded setting it's an amazing way to unwind and relax. The springs are very clean, with hot springs, two saunas (dry and wet), a cooling pool, and private tubs. The spring area is clothing optional (though everyone is nude) while the remainder of the facility is clothing required (like the kitchen).
The sleeping accommodations are basic but neat and clean -- toilets and sink only. No showers except in the springs area.
There are no restaurants or eats at Orr. There is a communal kitchen and you must purchase groceries, etc. before coming down into the valley. A good place is the natural food store once you get into Ukiah. There is also Safeway/Albertsons like store as well. There are fridges and bins in which to store your food, and the kitchen is pretty well stalked with all sorts of appliances and utensils.
The staff are friendly and kind. Would definitely return.
Wildflour Bread
Heard rave reviews about this place so perhaps I had too high expectations but I had 2 different types of scones and cheesy bread. I had lavender ginger and orange cranberry chocolate scones. While I loved the flavor of lavender ginger I thought the scones were rather dense and a little on the dry side. The scones were huge! Since scones are rather rich since of their high butter content, I find that smaller sized scones are rather filling and preferred. I think these scones were dry because they were so big and thick that they had to cook them longer, which probably dried them out.
The cheesy bread was good but the flavor of the bread was ok and wouldn't have been that great without the cheese.
Capitol City Brewing Company
The beers are good and cheap. I had a pale ale and a friend had raspberry wheat beer. The food is so so. I had fish tacos. The tortillas were stale and the fish wasn't anything to write home about. Skimped out on the condiments like lettuce, tomatoes, and salsa. I could make them tastier.
T-Mobile
While I did not ultimately choose T-Mobile I have to say that I was pretty darn tempted. The staff are really nice, and they are also helpful in that they provide current information on their competitors. They also had what I considered to be a quality phone selection. My one pet peeve is that the staff person working with me was not completely up front about calling other T-mobile customers. I was told it's free but when I read the fine print that feature is listed as $6.99 per month.
All in all, a good experience.
A T & T Wireless
I don't have very nice things to say and this is why. First, the store is so crowded and there are not a staff to address the needs of all the customers and staff are not that friendly. My biggest pet peeve occurred last year when I went in to have something done to the account. They did not close out of my account when I left so some how, my account was handed over to some one else. Because of this I was required to get a new phone which they provided for free but they still made me pay for the taxes on the phone though it wasn't my fault!
Verizon Wireless
I shopped around for a week checking out other companies and their phones (T-Mobile and Cingular) and ultimately chose Verizon for their service, phone quality, and reasonable prices. They made the whole process of transferring my phone number and contacts painless and simple. A week after I purchased my phone, they replaced it without question when I complained of the phone getting hot.
I recommend them.
Peninsula Shell
This place has the cheapest prices in the Burlingame/San Mateo area. This place is at least 10 cents cheaper per gallon than the Chevron down the street. It's clean, well lit, and cheap.
Burlingame Food Market
I go here when I forget something at the grocery store and don't feel like going to Whole Foods. They have all the staples though it costs more than say Safeway or Whole Foods. If you're in a pinch, they'll have what you need but it won't be the same quality as a true grocery store.
The one thing I don't like is that the store has an odor when you first walk in.
