Jing-Jing Szechwan Hunan

Palo Alto, CA Chinese Restaurants 05/12/06: 'Good, fresh, fast delivery'

I have eaten at Jing Jing a few times recently and received great food, fast service and really enjoyed it. With all the chinese restaurants around I sometimes forget about this gem!

La Belle Day Spas & Salons

I had a bad experience at La Belle at Stanford a few years ago. I was in having a massage and when I came out all the lights were out - yes, they forgot about me and didn't apologize. On top of that I didn't get their "signature" foot soak in the waiting room. All around disappointing, especially since they are not cheap!

D & M Motors

Palo Alto, CA Auto Repair 05/12/06: 'Good for BMWs'

These guys are very niue and honest. BMW's are expensive cars to repair. I had a 740 i, but felt confident when I brought my car into DM that they would give me the straight scoop on what the car needed.

Peninsula Fountain & Grill

Peninsula Creamery (Fountain & Grill) is a great family place. The portions are very large, yummy homemade bread, great milkshakes. Everything is good, large onion rings that are a great treat. I love their Tuna Melts. Go hungry. It isn't cheap, but good!

PROS: Great food & large portions
CONS: Not a lot of seating, a bit expensive for a diner

Cascal

Mountain View, CA Mexican Restaurants 05/12/06: 'Good, fun and different'

I really like Cascals because it is different and they serve tappas, which are like smaller portions, sort of like eating appetizers. I love a variety of food and this environment allows you to taste numerous things. Sometimes the food can be a bit spicey, but I am a whimp when it comes to spice. Try it, you'll like it.

PROS: Musical entertainment
CONS: A lot of fried things on the menu

Max's Opera Cafe

Palo Alto, CA Caterers 05/10/06: 'Big portions - go hungry'

I love Max's the portion for all meals especially desserts are HUGE.

I heard they recently changed their menu so all the great old favorites aren't necessarily there. It is convenient while shopping at Stanford Mall and they have a nice bar.

Osteria

Palo Alto, CA Restaurants 05/10/06: 'The best Italian food on the Peninsula'

Osteria is great. The food is excellent, piping hot and very reasonably priced. I love the calamari steak, but you can't go wrong with any dish. We recently "split" a small Caesar salad and had very generous portions.

They don't have the best wine list for wine by the glass. We ended up getting a bottle of Thomas Fogerty Chardonay that was perfect with a great meal.

PROS: Great food, reasonably priced
CONS: a bit small and sometimes very hurried

Nola's Restaurant & Bar

Palo Alto, CA Cajun Restaurants 05/10/06: 'Great food - great place to hang out'

Nola's tends to draw a younger 20-30 something crowd, especially at the bar. They have a New Orleans style menu that is reasonably priced. I LOVE the skirt steak here - it is delicious. Everything is good, the appetizers, corn bread and they have a killer chocolate dessert.

Spago

Palo Alto, CA Restaurants 05/10/06: 'Great food and service'

I recently went to Spagos and was very impressed. We went on a week night and had great service and the food was excellent. I had sea bass that was outstanding along with a dinner salad and an excellent chocolate dessert.
They have a great wine list and bar. It is a bit on the expensive side, but worth it as a great place for a treat.

PROS: Service, quality of the food and wine
CONS: Expensive

Oasis Beer Garden

Menlo Park, CA Restaurants 05/10/06: 'Great for VERY casual dining'

The "O" has been around for years. It is great to go there with a group and/or kids. Be prepared there are picnic tables and peanut shells on the floor, but that is part of their charm.

They have great hamburgers, but really try the pizza. It's very good.

PROS: Outdoor seating
CONS:
