You'd never believe the great acts this tiny little club gets coming through. I've seen Cake and Willie Nelson in this small club, and both were great! It's standing room only, and they have a pretty decent bar. Keep an eye on their upcoming events and get tickets to the cool shows that come through. Not many people think about going south for good shows... they all look in San Francisco, so you can usually get tickets without jumping through hoops.
PROS: Good acts. Good drinks. Tiny Venue

Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
I love watching out for upcoming events at this little hall. It's not fancy, but it's very small and there's not a bad seat in the place. The local kids play basketball here, but I've seen Dave Brubeck and Bonnie Raitt with no more than 400 other people at each event and it's wonderfully intimate. A great secret venue!
PROS: Small, intimate, great acts
CONS: a little low-tech and quriky

I've had my hair cut here for a while, and I really enjoy the place. I have to admit that my first stylist suddenly dissappeared and I always wondered what happened to her, but I now go to Martha and she's great. You don't have to book appointments too far in advance.
PROS: Good atmosphere. Skilled stylists. Easy to get an appointment
CONS: expensive products

Black Diamond Sports
For a tiny little store, this place has a pretty good selection of skateboards and inline skates for kids and adults. I took my 10-year-old in for his first set of rollerblades and a helmet, and they helped us choose a great pair for beginners and a helmet that didn't make him look like a dork. The people there were good at dealing with concerned parents and also great about making my son happy.
PROS: Good Selection. Good Service

Peninsula Ford of Palo Alto
I have an extended warranty on my Ford Hybrid, and I have to say that I will never buy one of those from Ford again. This is my local dealer, and it is clear that once they have the money for the extended warranty they have no interest in giving me good service. They never deliver my car back on time. I constantly have to fight with them about whether something is covered or not (I bought a bumper to bumper warranty!), and the work they do is shotty at best. Do not buy a car from this dealership, and certainly don't buy a warranty.
PROS: None
CONS: Terrible service. Terrible workmanship

Scuderia West Motorcycles
I bought my Aprilia here, and also have it serviced at Scuderia, and these guys make it fun from the start. They were helpful in helping me pick the right one, had a great selection of gear to keep me safe, and are always prompt with service. If they say it will be done by a certain time, it will be. I wish they had a bit more riding apparel, but what they have is good stuff.
PROS: Great sales and service, and a good selection of accessories

Robert Krohn Shoes
If you get the right person to help you they will measure your feet carefully and help you get a very well fitted shoe, but some of the staff is careless. Also, orders take several weeks to arrive, and should there be a problem with anything they sell you they are often less than helpful This used to be a much better store, but has seen some slip in service.

Cassis
Cute inventory of mostly European clothing. A quick trip is sure to find a fun outfit, and the helpful sales staff gives honest opinions of what looks good on you. They have the latest things, and you don't have to brave the mall to go. Designer labels make this a fun place to shop for women (or a special woman).
PROS: Cute stuff, helpful staff
CONS: a little pricy

Smilin Dogs
I was considering using Smilin Dogs to care for my dog during the day, but with a bit of research I started hearing stories of lost animals that were returned to their owners as much as a week later, and even some reports of dogs that were attacked by other dogs and killed while under the care of Smilin Dogs. I would give the company a 1 star, but I did not personally experience this.
PROS: Seems like a fun place for a dog
CONS: A deeper look shows the service to be negligent

Spinnaker Shop
Whether your a hardcore sailer or just need your patio umbrella repaired, the Spinnaker shop does great work, and is run by good people. I have had most of my sails repaired there, sail-covers made, and even custom work like seat cushions and stuff. They are always the best price and the things they make hold up very well.
PROS: A great technical sewing shop for sailors or anyone else
CONS: None.
