Nailstudio.NET
This salon is quite big and they never have you waiting. (I almost never make an appt.) Prices are reasonable; pedicures are $23 and manicures are $12. The owner is can be a little overbearing, but don't mind that. She is just trying to make sure each client gets the best service. They are open late (8pm during the week) and never rush you out if you show up at 7:45.
PROS: clean salon, never a wait
CONS: none
Willow Billiard Club & Lounge
Nice to have a billiards club right in Hoboken. You can relax with friends, have a beer and shoot some pool. Definitely worth checking out for something different...that you can walk to too! It's right across from Rite Aid, so we've parked there before when we can't find a spot on the street.
PROS: Open late
CONS: None
Crosta & Rossi Dental Assn
This office can not be believed! The staff is so friendly and competent. Cleanings last 40 mins and the hygenists make sure to do their best. Dr. Crosta himself is a wonderful dentist. How many doctors today actually take time out to chat with you? This office is like one big family...and their dental skills surpass any other office I have been to. I've recommended several people who feel the same way. No worries giving them my full endorsement.
PROS: Excelled, plenty of parking on Ridge Rd.
CONS: None
Saferstein & Saferstein
I've been going to Dr. Saferstein (Mitchell) for several years. There is not a usual wait like with most doctors. During the eye exam, he wil tak the necessary time to discuss with you anything that he sees or suggests. Nice to have a dr. who can spare a few mins these days. Helpful staff helps to pick out flattering frames.
PROS: Plenty of parking, no ridiculous waiting room lines
CONS: None
Mezzaluna Bistro
No doubt they make good pizza at this shop, but be prepared for a higher than normal bill. Even slices (reg. or stuffed) are pricey. They always offer coupons in the monthly mailers, so if you're in the area be sure to cut one out before you go.
PROS: Plenty of parking
CONS: Pricey
Sushi House Of Hoboken
I'm a regular at the Sushi House. All the rolls are always fresh and prepared just right. This place is BYOB so stop off for your fav wine or sake. There is also out door seating if it is warm enough. Great people watching!
PROS: Good prices, fresh fish
CONS: Sometimes service can be really slow
Hoboken Library
I just got my Hoboken library card. A friend and I spent nearly 30 mins looking through all the DVD's and CD's. Great way to listen and watch all the latest stuff for free. The only down side to the DVD's is that the late charge is $2 a day. There's also free internet access.
PROS: Late nights till 8pm
CONS: Usual pain to park on Hoboken side streets
Sobsey's Produce
I've lived in Hoboken for a year now and this was the first time I walked into Sobseys. I just needed a few potatoes and some beans and I spent 30 mins walking around the store and checking out what they had. They have fresh produce out side of the store as well as inside. There is also a second room to the store that has all organic dry goods and some refrigerated items. The prices aren't too bad and I ended up picking up so many more items than I originally went in for. While I was on line the man at the register was telling me that they carry fresh seafood and free range chickens. And if there was something that was sold out or that I didn't see listed, they can get it in for you. I can't wait to try more things from this store. I was walking home, so there was only so much I could carry. Definitely worth checking out, even if it's only to browse.
PROS: Everything!!
CONS: None
Aixa's Luscious Paper
You can't help but stand and stare at the inside of this store. Everything is beautifully displayed. If you're into paper products, card making, journaling, etc you will love this place. The prices are a little higher than I expected, but it is a specialty store. Worth checking out.
PROS: vast selection
CONS: Can be pricey
Hoboken Gold & Diamonds
When we were shopping for wedding bands, we looked at this store. I found a few things that I liked very much and the prices were okay. However, the owner felt the need to tell us that my selections wouldn't go with my style of engagement ring. I was very put off by this. The choice of what ring I want is mine and mine only. I did not like being told 4 and 5 times that my choice was wrong. Needless to say we left and made our purchases somewhere else.
PROS:
CONS: On the street parking
